Anyone done this? Sending to a service is way too expensive. I probably have about 500 slides. Any reviews of hardware you have used to do this is appreciated. Thanks
negatives but never slides. The problem I had with negatives was color which you won't have with slides. I used a Canoscan 9000F.
Not sure what you are hoping to spend, but it looks like Costco offers a service... https://www.costcodvd.com/services-and-pricing/slide-transfer $20 / first 62 slides $.32 / each slide after (140.16 for 438 slides) 500 would be $160.16 That's a bit pricey if you're able to find the hardware for half that price and do it yourself. (not sure what the hardware costs...so Costco might actually be a decent deal)
If you have a slide projector and want to go cheap. Just shoot the image on a screen or wall, and then take a picture of it with your cell phone camera. Bam!
a basic scanner will do this if you have the time or desire to do it yourself https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00819390
I need to do the same someday. Something like this seems to be the easiest option if you have the equipment.
There is a free piece of software called GIMP that will let you do Photoshop-like things to clean up photos or do color correction once you've scanned them. The problems is, as with Photoshop, there can be a learning curve.
Thanks for all the input. I have a flatbed so I may play around with that and see how easy it is to scan a number at once and then use software to make them look better. Thanks for finding the Costco link. Didn't occur to me to look there or Sam's and it didn't show up in my google search. I've looked into buying a standalone unit, but none have jumped out at me.
I worked at a hospital about 15 years ago that bought a 250-slide batch scanner. I brought it home with me one weekend and zapped about 1000 into digital. (my stepfather loved slides for some reason- he never busted out the slide machine). Anyway, just pay a service.
