I hate love songs. They don't appeal to me...possibly because they are usually slow paced ballads...possibly because they're so sappy. It's just not my thing.

But...just finished listening to Just Like Heaven by The Cure...and I've got to say that this is probably my favorite "love" song of all-time. It's fast. It's different. It's almost timeless (IMO).

What is your favorite love song?

I love that song. I also like sappy love songs. Also from my all time under rated sappy romance movie.

    Obviously better version:

one night, over thirty years ago.....I went to a strip club in Austin with a bachelor party. Some girl.....who (in my drunken stupor believed) was way too pretty to be a stripper, got on stage and “danced” to Stranglehold. She was very......submissive in that dance. Now in my old age, it’s the only memory of a strip club that I have.

    You forgot the video. =)

Nice selections so far. I Melt With You is one of my all time favorites. Also, I could listen to Tony Williams of the Platters sing forever.

If we are being 100% serious it has to be a soul song. Straight-forward, passionate, and to the point. No f-ing around in a Soul song.

A couple of contenders, probably exactly what OP hates:

As a runner up, this song was PLAYED TO DEATH, and then resurrected from the dead and played to death again by "Classic Rock" radio many years ago when I listened to radio (and they always played this live version, not the studio version off the album). But in the night mood, I can remember how good it was the first time I heard it, both very passionate, and very sincere. His solo stuff was all sappy as hell, but that plays right into the mood here. This was Paul McCartney at the height of his powers, as good as any Beatles song.

Bring it on @Dr of Dunk! Wifey and my first dance at our wedding was a sappy John Michael Montgomery song. :D
