He would have gotten "Dixie Chick"-ed if he came out with this one today.

Devil Went Down to Georgia was iconic and transcended Country.

I never knew someone could fiddle like he did until I heard the "The Devil Went Down To Georgia". That song still gets me to this day. It's just a masterpiece. It didn't hurt to have him perform it in "Urban Cowboy" to get it out there. If that was all one would be known for, then that would be something. I'll be honest in that this is all I really know him for and it's enough for me to where it had an impact. That's saying something. RIP

Greatness. The Devil Went Down to Georgia will forever be one of my favorite songs. And dammit, it's a rap song. LOL.

    BTW, who remembers this?

heck of a career. i didnt know till today that he was a session musician on dylans nashville skyline.

but his best work will always be with the dale gribble bluegrass experience

"tell 'em ill play till my fiddle catches fire"

People say i'm no good, crazy as a loon, well I get stoned in the morning, get drunk in the afternoon
Kinda like my ol blue tick hound I like to lay around in the shade.
I aint got no money, but I dam sure got it made

PS I can't be the only one who thinks the Devil won that contest with Johnny. The devils solo was far superior.

His best album (I know I've mentioned this before) songs are in order, not all album versions though, couldn't find that:

Can't believe nobody's mentioned the Orange Blossom Special, it kicks the **** out of Devil Went to Georgia.

Before he got all political and started Fiddlin' For Jesus with Billy Graham, he and his band were badasses back in the day.
