NBA Says 9 More Players Test Positive For Coronavirus July 2, 20205:31 PM ET https://www.npr.org/sections/corona...-9-more-players-test-positive-for-coronavirus
I really don’t think we are going to finish the season. We’ve just done a poor job as a country of managing COVID.
The issue is the 14 day quarantine. The product is going to be so watered down. Winning this championship won’t mean much.
The good thing is the NBA is trying, as the problems they are trying to solve are pretty much the same as people in any job. The bad thing is that no one has a good answer, including the NBA. Some of the most common, but naive, responses in our current situation are based on the fact that many people are just giving up on the value of their lives, either from the individual's perspective (YOLO) or from the employers (I don't know what to do except pretend my employees' jobs are the same as before). What's distinctive about the NBA is that the employees in question are rich and value their lives a lot. So they have to think about this in less simplistic ways. Could be informative for the rest of us.

Charles on the season: "I don't think we got any chance of finishing this thing... the chances of us going 3 months and not having an outbreak, I just think that's impossible"
It's possible if they expand rosters, and then as people get diagnosed (and even sick), they quarantine. Once they're clear and healthy for a set amount of time, they can come back. (And the good thing would be we could hope they have immunity at that point.) It's going to be a weird, weird experiment. I just hope none of the players get too sick. I wonder if coaches and other older folks could just Zoom with the players. LOL. Imagine Popovich on a little iPad propped up in a chair signalling for time out and yelling though the tiny speaker.
Or they could just not “experiment” at all and wait for more certainty. Treat it like a strike or something. If you’re not going to at least let asymptotics play then you shouldn’t be playing at all. You’re forcing guys who aren’t injured to sit out. That should clue you in to the fact that what you’re doing is messed up.
