Of course people shouldn't steal. Deadly force against someone who is no longer a threat to you is morally reprehensible.

I agree with you. Homeowners have nearly no rights to protect their property from theft. The police will not investigate and if they actually arrest a suspect, the suspect gets a slap on the wrist and is out thieving again.

 

I'm not saying anything at all about a flag or the value of any item specific item at all.

What I am saying is that a home / land owner has the right to protect their property with deadly force , particularly so at night - In Texas.

Seems to me a lot of you are more concerned with the rights of a thief than the person he's stealing from and that the item being stolen is offensive.

Again , what is stolen is irrelevant , it being offensive is irrelevant.

And really , that guy flying that flag - You have to know he's nucking futs. Only a true idiot would go try to steal from someone that obviously crazy ... That to me would be the haunted house on the hill to avoid at all costs.

Yes what is stolen is very relevant context matters.

There should be no excuses made for what he did.
There should be no excuses made for what she did.
I was taught at an early age, my dad gave me the talk. Don't be messing around with other people's property. You might get an ass kicking like JR Smith doled out. You might run into someone that has a gun looking for a reason to use it. Evidently she never had this talk with one of her parents.
He also told me, and this is important, try not to kill people. So, evidently the flag owner never had that discussion either.
A life is not worth a flag.
It's never ok to steal people's stuff.

Let's start with those two basic tenets we should all be able to 99% agree upon and then build a foundation to work on from there.
