edit: the rockets are near the bottom in fg% cause all of these "dependable" outside shooters the rockets seem to have a plethora of aren't hitting jack this season from outside. The play was a good one. From that range, Yao's jumper is as good as anyone on this team. Like Taylor said, he'd give Yao that shot 200 times cause he'd hit 199 of them.

Patently ridiculous. Steve said in his interview that they practice that play and that Yao makes the shot all of the time. Sure, Yao gets good shots in the post, but if you look at the stats in the last couple of games, we also have a large number of turnovers playing in the post. Yao doesn't get superstar calls in the post yet, so going down low may have been a big gamble, especially with KG roaming for weakside help.

I think that it was a great play to be called, and it was obviously executed well. We had the ball in the hands of our stars, and we got an open mid-range jump shot. That is a much better shot than a three pointer in the hands of one of our so-called specialists.

Only trolls will create such a stupid thread.

That shot was as good a shot as you can get. The Wolves D collapsed inside which means that there were not any inside looks for our big man. The guards (JJ and Cat) were covered. Yao made 2-3 outside jumpers in a row and that was as good a shot as you can get in this kind of situation. Good play by all involved. It is just that the shot did not fall. EOM

He missed the shot and thats it.

Yao is a terrific shooter and usually would make those...it did not fall this time.

Did you even watch the series against the Magic in 95. It sounds like you didn't.

Charvo, I do not agree with all your points, but will say that Ming should have taken a few steps in before shooting IMHO....he was way out there with no one near him...one or two steps might have made the difference....but with that said...it was a beautifully drawn play and you know what if we had our legs, we would have won that game....

Ming nails that probably 75%..no 90%....2-3 steps in and maybe 90-99%...

Living in MN I see the Garnett a lot and he takes alot of jumpshots, including a lot of threes.

Part of the problem why Yao's jumpshot isn't a big part of the Rox offense is because JVG want's Yao to play down low. Yao is a good outside shooter, even the T-pup's commentators were saying that and that the Pups were very very very lucky that Yao missed that one.

You can't judge Yao's skills on this one play.

I don't really understand tour position here charvo, I think we are getting a little too sensitive and nasty on this board. I don't see any reason to question you mental faculties or label you a troll. (relax folks) It just doesn't seem like we're watching the same team/player here.

Yao has one of the softest touches (out to around 20') I have ever seen on a big man. He regularly knocks that shot down.
I for one, think we should use himin the high post more often to take advantage of his vision passing skills and the aforementioned soft touch.

If you think about it Yao usually only gets his shot blocked or "not fouled?" in the post or fading away to the baseline. Dude is just too tall to effectively defend on apenetrate and kick out because he never brings the ball down. I think the Rockets should do more of this not less. I realize VanGundy was harping for Yao to bang down low from day one and he was right, dude needs to toughen up. But don't ignore the skills he already owns.

I don't think you are stupid/hitler/troll, I just can't imagine your problem with that play...............But MJ passing up 3"s that's never a bad thing my friend.

Chang...great insight.....fyi,,,I felt the rox did not have their legs last night after 4 games in 7 nights and three of them OT...they seems a bit tired...lots of shots off the front of the rim...

btw: I love the t-pups commentators...you know if we meet in the playoffs I am so excited, because the pups have a nice following here and, frankly, Garnett is one of the classiest guys in the league....head on his shoulders, great skills and I am pulling for him,,,,,though not against us!!!!!

This will be a great series and a bummer that Minnesota may have such a tough first round opponent,,,,but that is the West....you do not breeze through anymore....

Are you kidding me, how many times is his jumpshot an important part of the offense? So when he's lacing Shaq from the perimeter that doesn't count for anything? Are you saying that he's a banger? His skills are the most important, and his jumpshot is key to that. Lord knows that he's not going to muscle people, or take them off of the dribble. Give it up my friend.

You must of not watched a lot of Rox basketball during our good years. I think Hakeem's ability to hit 18 - 20 footer was the reason that Barkley actually was able to be effective on the Rox.

Otherwise you'd have two players that both post up on the left side of the court, not to mention Clyde who likes to back down and drive from the left side of the court. The fact that we made the west finals with our big three's playing style conflicting this much is a testament of how good they really are.

But back to this thread, Hakeem can and does take 18 - 20 foot jumpers. Even a couple of times in crucial situations, don't remember a specific game but i know he does.

Didn't Hakeem hit a three in the last game of the '95 Championship against the Magic?
