With whom u may ask? PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS!

Nuggets assistant known to work well with players

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Trail Blazers have received permission from the Denver Nuggets to interview assistant John Lucas for their vacant head coaching job.

Dan Issel, the Nuggets' coach and president of basketball operations, told the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal that Blazers president Bob Whitsitt contacted him about Lucas.

"We're extremely excited about this opportunity for John," Issel told the newspaper. "I think he would be a great asset for Portland."

Lucas, 47, has been a Nuggets assistant for three years. He has been an NBA head coach twice, compiling a 136-171 record. He was 94-49 with the San Antonio Spurs and 42-122 with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Lucas, a former cocaine addict, is known for his communication skills and his ability to deal with troubled players. He has a relationship with Rasheed Wallace that dates back to Wallace's high school days in Philadelphia.

Former Cleveland coach Mike Fratello and former Blazers Lionel Hollins and Johnny Davis are also considered possible candidates to replace Mike Dunleavy, who was fired last month.

Personally I think this would be a good move for them.

Just because John Lucas is former-Rocket doesn't make this TOPIC Rocket-related.

I've seen all kinds of FORMER ROCKET
posts here that were not rocket related.
It is a tenuous connection but it is a valid one.

Seems like former Rocket stuff would fit here. I think it would be great to have Lucas back in the game. I was in elementary school at Sharpstown Christian with his two kids when they banned him for drugs. He was always such a nice guy, just had a little itching for the nose candy. It would really be great to see a good guy get back to a head coaching position.

Technically and according to the bylaws instituted by the United Federation of Planets, this is an on-topic post.

If you can post about former Rocket Tracy Murray, why not about an even better former Rocket in John Lucas?

But yeah, it's a reach. [IMG]

Francis and CompaqC I don't know if you noticed when my registration date is but just in case you did not know this , I've been posting in this BBS long before any of you even knew about clutchcity.com (back then) so don't treat me as a new poster because that am not.. I just happen to have a life and don't post as much as some of you do ......... it might be a "reach" but still belongs here... yeah, it could also be posted on the NBA part of it but it's a tossup since he was a rocket and not just any rocket.

Heh... come on... it's the frickin' off-season. ANY connection is good enough. I'd certainly prefer reading this to yet another "Cato for the #4 pick thread" [IMG].

3pointer: You know, Francis3's registration date is only a month later than yours [IMG]. I'd hardly call that "long."

you guys sure get uptight about who posts what where. John Lucas was our greatest point guard ever until Stevie came along.

Not ony is he interviewing in Portland, the cleveland Cavs have interest as well. They were doing what BskBALL called a "character check" on him last week. That means they were calling around to get opinions about him from former players, assistant coaches, etc.

Lucas excels in difficult situations, thanks to his drug rehab background, so Portland might be the better fit.

Yes, and we hope you enjoy it because I doubt it'll change anytime soon. [IMG]
