These jackasses are not merely evil and corrupt- that is par for the course for Republicans for a while- their sloppy, amateur hour incompetence in a f-ing election year while thousands of Americans are dying makes me think the people in the Trump Administration don't want to be re-elected.

I know about health care. I don't care to debate it really. Let just said the system is broken and stupid. But you asked about high ded... so just my personal situation below.

I have private ins through my company. I choose a high ded (+HSA) so that I can have a lower premium. My math is simple - almost in every cases, I will should be ahead and save money. I just need to set aside enough to cover my ded + med expenses.

The low ded high premium plans do not make financial sense to me. The value of that plan I guess is it's easier for some in that they don't have to worry about an OOP shock and do not need to weight between getting care vs saving up that OOP. But at the same time, do they realize that they are paying a much higher premium... either directly or through a lower paycheck? I know people that can't control their spending habit, can't save up, so they opt for the low ded plan so they faces no OOP shock.

It does make sense in your case my friend. You might also want to look into a supplemental plan like Surebridge of Chesapeake Life Ins, check to see if they’re available in your state. These kinds of supplemental plans will help you out a lot because of your high deductible insurance. You file a claim and they pay you directly to help out with costs when you need to use your regular insurance. Remember, when you go to the regular PCP office visit, you pay a co-pay(which does not effect your deductibles) but if you’re required more attention after that, let’s say, imaging, specialists, you’ve got to meet that deductible before your insurance can kick in and pay a portion of your bills. A supplemental plan can ease that pain somewhat for you and premium is not a lot either. I wish we can have real healthcare reform , and not this minefield where it is so complicated that you can go broke or worse. That’s another debate though.
