Serious question... I'm listening to Joe Rogan with Jocko Willink, and Jocko brings up a good point. If The Rock ran as an independent right now, how many of you would seriously vote for him? He's got dependability, accountability, relatability. He listens, he's charismatic, and he can unite people. He's built businesses, etc. Look at this BBS, and the threads that are strewn through it, everything is devisive. Everything. It's black or white. Maybe what we need is someone that can be a common denominator amongst people, and screw policy. People are sick of politics. They were when Trump got elected. Maybe what we need is someone that can simply unite people through humanism? So I ask, if The Rock ran as an independent with a politician, or even a pseudo politician (say Andrew Yang), would you seriously vote for him? I would. And I'll say it again, I'm being serious. I've said this a few times on this board, to me, policy is a secondary issue right now in this election. A President can only pass so much policy on their own. A people uniter is more important to me. I already know who is going to be outraged by this question. I can't wait for their responses.
I wish Dwayne would run for a congressional office somewhere first and get experience in the political realm. I love watching him and he seems like a great person, but we don't know how he'll react when he's being blocked in Congress, how he'll interact with foreign dignitaries (or despots) and what his policy positions are. Just because we see a persona on TV doesn't mean that's what he is behind the scenes. I'm not saying he isn't what he portrays, but we also need someone who can actually help push through policy and help get rid of the Republicans in Senate who only want to help corporate interests. Is he up to the task? Also, if the Rock runs, he'll siphon off votes from Biden, but Trump's base is committed to him...which means 4 more years of Don the Con.
I like Johnson. He seems like a good guy, charming, personable. But hell naw. I want people who have dedicated their lives to public service, who have experience, who have been educated in and thinking deeply about how to improve governance. Don't want an amateur or a tourist in the high office. Could he unite people? No, I don't think any one person can. And he'd get devoured by the DC jackals if he tried.
How have the last four years not convinced you that this isn't the job for somebody who hasn't done anything remotely similar before?
