Interesting that Texas finally decided to report prisoners as part of the number. I love how the Governor just casually mentioned that it was "just" prisoners in those counties and that some other increases were "just" because of nursing homes...like those people don't matter at all.
Despite the naysayers, we are in deep **** and getting deeper... The new coronavirus has killed more than 2,000 people in Texas Texas Tribune By the state's official count, the coronavirus pandemic has now killed 2,029 people in Texas, a toll experts agree is an undercount. It is now routine to add two or three dozen deaths to the tally every afternoon. And each day, more Texans are catching the virus that might kill them. The state’s focus is not on preventing all deaths at all costs, but on reopening gradually enough that hospitals do not become overwhelmed. Hospitalizations of coronavirus patients on the rise, hit all-time high in Texas Fort Worth Star-Telegram Texas has set records for hospitalizations eight of the past nine days. Hospitalizations broke records three days in a row at the start of last week, and then dropped down slightly to 2,008 patients on Thursday. They went on to hit records again with 2,166 patients Friday, 2,242 patients Saturday and 2,287 patients Sunday. Hospitalizations have been trending upward since late May, and have increased by about 66% since Memorial Day. However, they say some individual hospitals have been overwhelmed. Those hospitals are full and are asking ambulances to go elsewhere. Dr. David Persse, Houston Public Health Authority, said it's partly due to elective surgeries ramping up again. Gov. Greg Abbott points to “abundant” hospital capacity as Texas continues with business reopenings Texas Tribune Abbott, speaking during a news conference in Austin, called the state’s capacity “abundant” and said officials are “laser-focused” on maintaining that level. Abbott seeks to reassure Texans as COVID-19 cases rise Austin American-Statesman Although the numbers of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations are on the rise in Texas, Gov. Abbott sought to reassure the state Tuesday, saying hospital beds remain plentiful and treatment options have improved. Abbott attributed Tuesday’s record high number of new COVID-19 cases — 2,622 — to certain counties reporting large batches of tests all at once, particularly from prisons and assisted living centers.
They are in prison for a reason. That being said, that doesn't mean they should all be exposed to Coronavirus due to lack of testing and precautions to stop the spread. They aren't in a concentration camp held captive by some Communist regime after all. The same could be said about the elderly and sick people in nursing homes. It's all so unjust and immoral.
Their power is pretty much taken from them anyway with Republican Governors. Interesting how 3 high rising states like Florida, Texas, and Arizona have Republican Governors who aren't doing enough. They are Trump's puppets.
I wonder if there are any studies on the effects of herd immunity through the spread of the Rona in jails.
At least he is doing something now, unlike Abbott. Our mayors are trying the same thing but he won't budge. Abbott is Trump's puppet. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump blasts Ducey tomorrow on Twitter.
I figured the rise was coming. No real surprises. I've refused to do much outside of biking, going to work, essential shopping and ordering take out. Potential cases are starting to come up in my office (we have about 600 workers), my guess is they are catching this **** at home with whatever activities they are doing during their free time. I never opposed Abbott's plan, but now that he has move forward he isn't following his own guidelines of scaling back. The mask **** that had to become a political issue is also stupid. It isn't that ****ing hard, but once again Americans prove how selfish and stupid they are when they need to be told what to do.
