Roberts and Gorsuch joined the 4 liberal justices..... Gorsuch wrote the opinion.

This was surprising, but also understandable from a textualist perspective.

    This.

It is going to drive both Conservative and Liberals crazy..... but when you appoint someone like Gorsuch you are not always going to have him follow the company line, like you will with other political Justices.

It is possible the Conservatives will end up hating Roberts by the time he retires.

Not at all surprised by Roberts, Gorsuch, yeah, a little.

Good news today and I'm happy it was a 6-3 and we can move forward and make the world a better and safer place for a few more people.

That was sarcasm from @No Worries, of course.

This is truly great news. I particularly like that Gorsuch voted with the majority, which surprised me. trump must be livid. I'm awaiting the inevitable "tweet storm" from the creature to see what he says about Gorsuch and Roberts.

Some good news for once. I'll be celebrating this one. We know several members of the community via our two adult children, who had the good fortune to go to the Liberal Arts and Science Academy here in Austin, one of the highest rated high schools in the country and a very progressive institution, making several friends there who happen to be part of the "Rainbow."

Both Roberts and Gorsuch followed Anthony Kennedy on this. Kennedy while a conservative did frequently rule with liberals on social issues. Roberts was very influenced by Kennedy and Gorsuch replaced Kennedy.

Social issue aside, I could even see Scalia voting with the majority if he were still alive (not saying he would, but that it wouldn't be shocking) - it's in the freaking text of the law and that's all Scalia was about, regardless of lawmaker intent.

Yeah, I'm amending my opinion earlier from "Scalia may have voted with the majority" to "Scalia probably would have voted with the majority." That decision reads like it came straight from Scalia's mouth.

LGBT PACs should run campaign ads in Red States thanking Trump for this great victory in LGBT rights!

How messed up is the thinking of the 3 USSC Justices who voted against this?

    ETA:
Justices Samuel Alito, Brett Kavanaugh and Clarence Thomas dissented.
