Without a doubt, he is playing like a top 10 player since the ASG, and I guess what you have done lately mentality gives him an edge.

Well, you can make a credible case for him being first for a couple of reasons

    1. Shaq hasn't played the whole season and their numbers are similar so give the edge to Yao

    2. O'Neal isn't a true Center and only gets away with it playing in the East, Wallace isn't one and just isn't good enough.

    3. Yao has been on fire in the second half

but I think he will end up 3rd, in all likelihood.

Like what Sam Fisher said, I think he has enough reasons to be the FIRST team all NBA. Definitely atleast second. If he doesn't even get third then he got royally screwed.

it would be a sad state of affairs if the eastern conference glorified Power Forwards - Jermaine O'Neal or Ben Wallace beat out Yao for all-NBA 2nd team at Center.

Compared to all the so called "centers" this is how he stacks up in some of the stats.

    2nd 81.1ft%
    4th 17.8ppg
    5th 53.0fg%
    6th 9.1rpg
    8th 1.90bks

2nd team All NBA should not even be a question...

I guess that you put the likes of Oneil and Dirk also in the center category.

There's no such thing as a lock for votes like these. Everybody thought Yao was a lock for ROY last year and he got robbed.

He was a lock until we missed the playoffs and the Suns went.

Media people are just like fans here, they tend to remember what you have done lately! Yao was in a slump towards the end of the season, and Smith took over the coaching didn't help it either:mad:

I doubt they'll let Shaq play 2nd fiddle to Yao in the Allstar game AND all-NBA teams.

Shaq'll get #1 and I don't see why Yao wouldn't be 2nd team all-NBA. Everyone in the media already claims Yao's the 2nd best center in the league behind Shaq.

I have been waiting for the day when only Houston fans vote for all NBA teams.

    No doubt first team.

Who cares about all NBA teams anyway? It doesn't mean much.

Yao should aim for MVP or the scoring title or defensive player of the year. He has the potential.

First team is out of the question (Shaq). Second is a difficult (J. O'neal, Big Ben, and even Dirk.) so Most lickly 3rd team

You act as though Shaq doesn't deserve 1st team over Yao. Where exactly is the question? It seems pretty obvious to me.

    Shaq - 21.8 PPG, 11.6 RBP, 3.0 APG, 2.4 BPG, 58.2% FG%, 50.2% FT%

    Yao - 17.7 PPG, 9.1 RBP, 1.5 APG, 1.9 BPG, 53.1% FG%, 81.1% FT%

Yao will be on the second team if they have to include a center for each team. Otherwise Yao will at least be on the third all NBA team. It is amazing the 94% of the voters here believe that Yao will at least be on the third all NBA team.

I don't see what's so amazing about that. This is a rockets forum. If you polled a kings forum 94% would probably believe that brad miller should be at least 3rd team all nba.

Even so, if I were to do a poll on SF3, I guess that less than 10% of Rockets fans will put him on any of the all NBA team.

Yeah but frankly steve is on the outs with about 75% of this board and even the other 25% will conceed that steve is having a down year. Yao has improved his play and is currently the cf.net darling. Kind of like cwebb is on the outs with some kings fans.
