Ideally, people should just move past race. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/oct/15/thomas-chatterton-williams-race-books-interview
People are wired to identify with a group, and make a judgement quickly as to whether that person is "friend" or "foe". It's the same reason why politics makes people stupid. It's this innate need to self-identify with a group and any threat to that group is deemed an enemy. That said, I think anytime someone says, I don't see color or i don't judge based off of color, is simply just self-delusional. In fact, I would argue that these are the types of people that contribute more to the problem, simply because they don't think any problems exist. Studies show that majority of police do not believe there is a race problem, while the general population believe there is. There are a number of societal influences built into "racism". This aligns with media and news coverage of crime and portrayal of minorities. This helps perpetuate certain beliefs. I can find a number of people that say "These guys are prone to crime, because that is their culture", completely unaware that it was white america that led to that culture. They don't realize, up until recently, schools were segregated (thus poor education); real estate actively engaged in segregating and discriminating against minorities moving in, (thus leading to poor minority zones); harsh drug laws that target poor minorities (white people do drugs at the same rate as minorities, but are provided different sentencing; poor areas (minoiriies) are policed much heavier (because they can't target middle class, due to their voting power). All these lead to concentrated areas of poor minorities, with little education, and targeted for crime. Not to mention, once convicted, it's much harder for a minority to get a job (thus increase recidivism). The three strike rules especially hurt.
The real question is: why are liberals racist and will not admit it? Liberal elites always dealt that racecard from bottom of the deck and have nothing but contempt for the very minority that is being used.
I think it's less tribal and more about power and status. There are social hierarchies and racial hierarchy is one subclass of it. You can choose to be a Jazz fan but more than likely you were born into it. Same with religion and persecution by it's followers/non-Believers. The drive for Prestige or status is stronger than sex, money, or even death. That's why we have voluntary martyrs while the rest of us monkeys scratch our heads why from a hedonistic pov. Take down racism and there will be another difference maker with different scales to pick it right back up. 7+billion people out there and we all have our needs and insecurities on what makes us special, different, meaningful and enjoyable. And if it doesn't click, blow it up.
COVID19 disagrees. At this point, with thousands of years of experience, if we haven't realized a virus is much more likely to kill us off than some outer space species, we are doomed. The arrogance of humans is astounding.
White people, myself very much included, are finally just beginning to understand that being racist isn't really about having hate or prejudice or bigotry against people of other races--that's only one kind of racism and relatively few Americans are guilty of it. You don't have to have hate in your heart to be a racist. The insidious, systemic racism that permeates our entire society--and has since this nation's founding--is what constitutes real racism in America. And I've been as guilty as pretty much any white person of it. The article below was written by a woman from Women of Color in the Arts, but it really applies to any industry. It was shocking to me, upon reading it, to understand where I've been going so wrong. Where we all have. I urge white people to read it because white people need to read it. I encourage people of color to read it so they can weigh in with their own experiences and help white people here to listen, learn, grow, and--most importantly--act. [Edited because linking to Medium (with links intact) was a much better way to post the article. See below.]

It's not unique to them thoufg, "race" is a poor understanding of the world, the history of the world is more about ethnicity than it is race, it was really only a few hundred years ago that different racial groups started interacting, and if you break down performance by ethnic groups, it looks very different to a breakdown by race. Africa was a story of one tribe seeking to exploit and destroy others, Europe was constant warring, though they tended to not be as destructive in victory, Asia is also a bit different because their natural barriers (island here, mountain there) led to a lot of long term isolation, and the mindset that built the great wall. At its core though, it's mostly evolutionary, different traits were the successful ones due to the environments they were in, but the one thing all the survivors had in common was that resource scarcity was the rule rather than the exception so if they didn't compete over them, they died, we're the descendants of those who did it enough to survive that competition.
We have humans who don’t think it’s real. If the Independence Day scenario happens then people would be scared and come together man people didn’t come together in 12 monkeys or cantagon Nobody is scared of this virus unless they are really old now. Just go out in Houston to a restaurant
OP doesn’t get to demand civility when he is a known racist. Why are people racist??... different makes people uncomfortable, and tribalism is injected into our society for political power. Tale as old as time... divide and conquer. The us has more of a propaganda problem than a racism problem at the moment.
Racism, in its current form at least, is very modern. Not that you won't find Ancient Greeks who were racist, I'm not saying it is new, just that the 'races' in particular change. The tribes change. The groups change. As mentioned before, Native Americas fought and killed each other, just as Europeans did, and so on and so forth. A geneticist would say these aren't truly races, but that's another point entirely. The answer is then quite simple. People are tribal. We find groups of others that we feel are similar to us and band together. Sometimes it's not even by race, a lot of times it isn't. Sometimes it is by religion, sometimes it's around hobbies, sometimes it's around a video game system. You a playstation or xbox fanboy? 'Race' is just another category to group each other with. If you completely get rid of it, people will still fight...as history shows. We find reasons to disagree and then we group each other by those disagreements. So at the end of the day, society has put us on teams and people think its a competition. One thing you will find common with racists is that they claim all victories for their own. They will say "The white man accomplished this! The white man accomplished that!" And they will pound their chest as if they had something to do with it. Almost like how we cheer and root our Rockets on and we get sad and mad if they lose... You will find that racists also take the failures of their 'race' to heart. This is why actually, racist, are the guilty ones. They are the guilty ones because they do shoulder the blame for slavery, for segregation, for all the injustices because they do their best to argue it away. "No, the civil war was just about economics!" or "Blacks sold other blacks as slaves and what about the Arab slave trade? Everyone has had slaves in history!" At the end of the day, it's a team thing, we should all get that. (Except the fake fans that aren't even here for the Rockets. @tinman is taking care of those) When people attack Harden we get mad, we think to defend him. When people say Hakeem wouldn't have won if Jordan never left for a year we get mad at that too. When the Rockets disappoint us we get sad...but thankfully, it's just sports. I'd like to think most of us get over it in a day... But I see racists like that. They think it's a competition and they are just hardcore fans going to bat for their team...and you know how some Rocket fans irrationally say dumb things about other great players like Lebron, Giannis, Curry, etc etc? That's basically what racists do. They try to denigrate others to make their 'team' look better.
Lol nice thread you got there. We should really be looking a bdsm and humiliation fetishes. Op on a date.. "Oh cool what do you do for fun?" "I uh..post white supremacist propaganda to a basketball bbs" Racism, tribalism, labeling can be putting people into buckets. Sometimes as in case of dickless op its is trying to make themselves feel better about their predicament. remember for you its a bbs for them its their entire day and existence. sucks. That pain is manifested here. wait..so is this true about op?!? Yes it is true ..the man has no dick. Can you imagine how sad it must be that all your heroes are the losers of history??..the people you look up to, all defeated, literally hundreds of years of history proving them wrong and yet here they are so unimportant posting on a basketball bbs... begging for attention, for a reaction ..and getting no more than repeated ownage and humiliation. Op reminds me of one of the las vegas bachelor parties I went to.. we all drank and partied and this one dude in the group had this humiliation thing. At one point dude had people coming up and punching him, chicks writing on him, and all these people pouring beer on his head. He loved it... good one op ..bottoms up
Two primary reasons. The first is fairly innocuous, or at least does not imply negative intent or outcomes. The second is far more troublesome. 1) Humans have evolved to be sorting machines. We don't have enough time or bandwidth to fully evaluate every data point in our lives. This natural grouping behavior inevitably leads to assumptions that teeter-totter between stereotypes and racism. 2) Humans are also tribal. When you crank the sorting machine up to 11... you get tribalism. In-groups and out-groups are a huge part of how our species came to be and our civilizations were able to form. But the legacy code of this behavior has some serious flaws in it. Namely how it tends to latch onto superficial things like melanin content. Once we have erected a totem of another group project our fears, doubts, and inadequacies onto, it's very hard to tear that shibboleth down.
This is the main reason... The other is control and misunderstanding... When people FEAR that they are losing CONTROL or POWER over another culture the racism digs in deeper... Racism is also taught and passed down to the next generation... You're not born with Racism, you're taught it.. T_Man
Chinese has a rich history of tribal war fares and killing each other for thousand of years. I'm sure that's not isolated to China either. Today, Asian hate each others. Japanese vs Chinese. Vietnamese in Vietnam hates the Chinese in China. These groups hating other groups is common. Does that lead to racism? Strictly, by definition (at least the def i use), no. But the effect might as well be the same or greater.
