If you use Window XP chances are you have had the Messenger Service pop up ads causing your problems.

They are annoying, but if they only happen a couple of times a day they arent to bad.

But I seem to have a problem.

I went to the ESPN web site and a message popped up. I clicked the X button and another popped up straight away.

Now for some reason I cant get this messenger to close at all.

I have tryed to disable the thing as it says on the Microsoft site and it didnt work. I have shut down my computer and dissconected the internet...and still it pops up straight away.

Does anyone know a sure fire way to kill this thing off?

I will never used this Messenger Service. If there is a program out there that deletes the stupid thing off of your computer....let me know what it is. :)

    Thankyou! :)

Right click on the "My Computer" icon and choose Manage.

Click the + sign next to "Services and Applications."

    Click on Services.

Scroll down to the Messenger service and double click on it.

    Click the Stop button.

In the drop down list, choose Disable.

    Click OK.

But it sounds like you are having issues with pop-up ads, not the Messenger service. To kill pop-ups, download either the Google toolbar (at Google.com) or Avant Browser (at download.com).

Or you can do what dozens of ClutchFans users have already done:

Download Mozilla Firefox. Ask anyone who's tried it.

It doesn't sound like the messenger service, but I'd definitely turn it off.

It's a pop-up ad that uses the messenger service. The above instructions are correct and should fix the problems.

    Thanks for your help guys.

I downloaded a couple of programs to stop the Messenger and at the moment it seems to have worked. :)
