I'd have to go back thru the studies I had found, but the levels of extreme deficiency in American blacks is just absolutely off the charts. The rate of death in that group versus others is also stunning. I found this thru the New York state data that excludes NYC https://covid19tracker.health.ny.gov/views/NYS-COVID19-Tracker/NYSDOHCOVID-19Tracker-FatalityDetail?:embed=yes&:toolbar=no&:tabs=n edit i have no clue why this image is so small but i hope you guys can read it
Also it looks like we have the first successful study with hydroxychloroquine plus zinc. The results were pretty dramatic if the patient was not already admitted to the ICU. More info at the link... Patients were categorized based on their exposure to hydroxychloroquine (400 mg load followed by 200 mg twice daily for five days) and azithromycin (500 mg once daily) alone or with zinc sulfate (220 mg capsule containing 50 mg elemental zinc twice daily for five days) as treatment in addition to standard supportive care. Results: The addition of zinc sulfate did not impact the length of hospitalization, duration of ventilation, or ICU duration. In univariate analyses, zinc sulfate increased the frequency of patients being discharged home, and decreased the need for ventilation, admission to the ICU, and mortality or transfer to hospice for patients who were never admitted to the ICU. After adjusting for the time at which zinc sulfate was added to our protocol, an increased frequency of being discharged home (OR 1.53, 95% CI 1.12-2.09) reduction in mortality or transfer to hospice remained significant (OR 0.449, 95% CI 0.271-0.744). Conclusion: This study provides the first in vivo evidence that zinc sulfate in combination with hydroxychloroquine may play a role in therapeutic management for COVID-19 https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.05.02.20080036v1.full.pdf
A 14-year-old boy with no underlying health conditions has died from a Kawasaki-like disease linked to coronavirus Says no underlying condition but also says he was obese. This heart problem is killing children, and they likely aren’t the only ones to experience these complications.
Just wanted to share some thoughts about healthy group of man , and the risk. My understanding is best data is NYPD stats. This group of man and women is 19-50 years old , a few up to 56 years but not older. “To date, 5,300 members of the NYPD have tested positive for coronavirus. As of Wednesday, 4,779 members of the NYPD have returned to work full duty after recovering from a positive test for the coronavirus ...” Unfortunately 41 died. Best part, that mortality rate is 0.77%. This is healthy group of working man and women.
lulz cops are not necessarily healthy at all. Most I see are definitely not in their 20's. I generally see old fat dudes and I rolled passed one on Saturday who had the window open and was smoking a cigarette in his cruiser.
My point is ,that NYC can’t lye about the cop cases, when I don’t believe about the rest.I agree , most cops aren’t healthy, especially street force. But the death rate for working people is obviously overrated. NYPD closely monitoring health of employees, if they possess any health risk , they put most of them on light duty (desk work) , or fire them . Same thing with firefighters. Both institutions run by the same union
Uhhh, that's NOT a good mortality rate for healthy people. Let's say unhealthy people are double that at 1.5% or so. That would project out to around 3-5 million Americans dead if everyone were to eventually get this.
My county seems to have flattened the curve as of now Editor's note: this article has been updated with more information. A Terrell Unit inmate in his 60s and a Pearland woman in her 70s were Brazoria County’s only reported new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, but the virus is now recorded in a second long-term care facility. The Pearland woman is a resident of Tuscany Village Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Brazoria County Judge Matt Sebesta said, where officials are working with the home to contain the spread. All residents and employees were provided Personal Protective Equipment and have received testing, Sebesta said. The county is still waiting for more results from the facility, he said. This is the lowest daily total of positive cases since April 18, according to county numbers, but follows 24 new cases reported Wednesday. The county also reported nine recoveries. The county now has 712 residents to contract COVID-19 with 328 confirmed, 371 recovered, four probable and nine that have died, according to Brazoria County Health Department data. For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia.
Just a quick note for anyone who keeps seeing headlines that the number of positive cases in Texas is getting higher and higher. This is true....however....it is primarily because we are continuing to expand testing. The 5 day rolling average of our tests per day are up about 50%+ over the past week and the percent positive rate declined again today to 4.5% from 5.25% yesterday.
FDA: Data suggests Abbott’s rapid coronavirus diagnostic test is delivering inaccurate results This has been suggested for a while now, and someone posted a story about it earlier in this thread, but the FDA is chiming in : https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/14/fda...ic-test-is-delivering-inaccurate-results.html
As you expand testing, two things are likely.. - more cases - decline in % positive control for both would yield better data
The good news is their competitor test, Cepheid, apparently works. The FDA alert comes a day after researchers at New York University published a study claiming the ID NOW test missed a third of samples collected with nasopharyngeal swabs that tested positive with a test from rival Cepheid.
