CF cooks, where do you get fresh fish to cook? I find that my local HEB (Bellaire) has good everything except fish because the fish always smells fishy, which I believe is an indicator that it is not fresh.

Id to be able to buy fresh fish, as well as mussels and even Hamachi Kama. I’d welcome any suggestions, particularly if it’s near or inside the loop.

This probably wouldn't help you, but this thread just reminded me again about riding with my parents as a kid down to the Seabrook area to go to Rose's, Emery's, etc. to shop for seafood and stock up our freezer back in the 70's and 80's. I need to get back down there one day once this covid garbage is checked, assuming they're still be around after the shutdown.

    Inside the loop?

Airline Seafood -- now in Montrose on Richmond .. block from La Tapitia (if that helps :))

If you go to HEB, have you tried the seafood counter at Central Market.

I get steelhead trout from HEB and havent had any issues with it.

I was going to say seabrook would be the place to go if you don't mind a drive.

I've heard good things about Ranch 99, but haven't been myself.

Are you looking for sushi? Then Seiwa Japanese market. I would live there if I could.

99 Ranch markets and the other Chinese places have decent fish.

A lot of the newer HEBs have a pretty good seafood selection.

    Fountain View Fish Market

It’s a hole in the wall that sells fresh and serves fried seafood. As an added bonus it’s walking distance from Treasures.

Freshwater fish is gonna smell fishier than salt water fish.

I also recommend Asian markets for variety but ultimately Seabrook for best variety.

In this connotation, "fresh" could be either be good or bad.
