You’re an idiot. Testing helps isolate the infected which in turn slows down the growth of infections. Why do you think places like South Korea and places like Canada have fewer deaths and infections

Oh boy, where do I start.

It’s the presidents job to make all of us understand the seriousness of a situation. He has some of the best medical experts in the world to help us understand these issues. It’s true that most Americans in January or February wouldn’t have supported drastic measures. But, they weren’t aware of the threat. The president and other Government officials were well aware of this serious threat. We know that they were aware of how dangerous this virus was because some members of Congress quickly made stock market trades in order to benefit from the coming pandemic as soon as they received intelligence reports about the virus.

So, the president knew of the threat. But, for some reason he decided to downplay the danger and decided instead to be a “cheerleader” for the nation.

I’m not even saying we needed to shut everything down in January or February. I’m saying we should have been properly informed of the threat and preparations could have started.

Here in Houston, when we see that there is a hurricane moving into the gulf, we start preparing for a possible landfall many days in advance. Our local leaders don’t pretend there isn’t a threat.

Just a huge colossal fail by Trump.

My post was less about Trump and more about our populace which is proving to be very independent or idiotic depending on how one views it.

but, your comment re Members of Congress making bs stock trades is on point. Leaders of both parties were informed of the risk. Our leaders collectively did not act. (Other than those who decided to dump stock).

shutting down our economy is a huge, tough decision. In hindsight, should have happened. But even now, a significant part of our population wants to open up when not much has changed medically. I just think the blame game is a superficial view of what was going on.

    Ok, I understand. I agree.

This whole thing is just very frustrating. It’s hard not to look back and see where mistakes were made. Now the price we pay is worse because of those mistakes. Furthermore, it feels like the government still doesn’t have a good handle on things.

It's clear that Trump wants the message to be about three things - blame China, emphasize the reopening of the economy, and promise a quick vaccine/cure. These are three areas I think he bets on to make him out to be a winner with the voters.

It's also clear that Trump will do all he can to avoid being connected to topics that could cast him in a negative light. Comprehensive testing and contact tracing are two of those "losers," and so any time these topics come up, he're prepared to immediately spin any hint of failure away.

It's truly mind-boggling that a national health emergency could be dealt with in such a self-serving manner, but that seems to be where we are.
And unfortunately, this means the country will continue to lack the needed federal support in testing, an area crucial to taking control of the pandemic.

Maybe that's their jam while they work and they had it on a playlist. I doubt Trump said hey let's make a mockery of the dead! That's a brilliant idea.

wow. not sure how I feel about this timeline. I can tell you for sure I would have changed the channel by now.

some of the other songs presumably on the playlist included

    'spirit in the sky'
    'knocking on heavens door'
'I just died in your arms tonight'
    'another one bites the dust
    'Highway to hell'
    'ready to die'
    'In my time of dying'
    'Fade to black'
    'only the good die young'
'in the arms of an angel'
And of course 'its the end of the world as we know it'

Both can be true. China is to blame because they're a food safety **** show and they lied about the virus to begin with (perhaps the only people on Earth that are bigger liars than Trump) and the US is to blame because our leadership is incompetent, our ragged edge capitalist system does not have enough social safety nets and causes us to value consumerism too highly, and our shitty educational system leaves too many Americans thinking that being forced to wear masks is unconstitutional because mah rights.

Just saw a Trump ad. The ad says "He's not always polite but HE GETS IT DONE!"

"GETS IT DONE!" as a tagline is hanging slider thrown down the middle for negative ads to hit.

I'm pretty sure Ive got the disconnect here between you and @jcf

You understand the use of "hindsight" to mean unforeseeable; this is obviously false, being stupid, ignorant and willfully blind doesn't make something unforeseeable. All of Trump's predecessors warned him of the threat, (his response was to destroy our threat detection and response capability) was immediately warned in the early stages of the outbreak (response was to call it a hoax) and even still today is being warned on the gravity of the ongoing crisis (thinks we should inject pinesol and declare Victory)

It's a hindsight issue because only a barely literate incompetent buffoon, with his cranium literally encircled by his saggy pale gluteii, would do such a profoundly terrible job and only his equally deluded followers would think 200,000 dead and 20% unemployment is a winning reelection strategy as he careens to defeat.

So, let @jcf have his hindsight argument. He deserves it.

Trump will never wear a mask in public. It makes him look weak.

I think these people might actually even believe this s***.

My coworker (who knows when I'll see him again) went full Deep State on me before this pandemic blew wide open. I felt like I'd walked into a Qanon chat group.
