Trend from last few years is biggest/strongest/fastest at the expense of most polished and that continues.

Just from the 5 minutes of research I did making me a draft guru, it sounds like he is better served playing as a 3-4 DE than a nose in that front. I wonder if thats how they plan to use him with Charles as part of the rotation. I was hoping for Epenesa or even Baun but cant hate this pick. BoB must feel really confident with the Whit/Scarlett/Martin/Duke combo on the outside

TCU co/worker absolutely raves about him. Hoped Arlington would trade down and picked him.

There’s no way Texans can afford the 50+ million he got.

PICK 40: HOUSTON TEXANS (VIA ARIZONA CARDINALS) — DI ROSS BLACKLOCK, TCU
Cornerback would have been a far better route to go, but Houston did have a need on the interior defensive line, and Ross Blacklock is a good person to fill it. He’s one of the more athletic interior defenders in the class, but the lack of pass-rush moves is a bit of a concern. Blacklock may not be an immediate impact player in the NFL, but he can sure develop his pass-rushing over time with his elite agility and explosiveness.

    https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft/rounds#pick-40

    Pre-Draft Analysis
Blacklock is a taller, leaner defensive tackle with below-average length and solid top-end speed. He's an outstanding run defender with the strength to stack and shed blockers one-on-one in addition to the quick hands and feet to disrupt plays in the backfield. Blacklock is more of a threat to get to the quarterback than his sack numbers would suggest, and he has the potential to develop into a productive interior pass-rusher at the next level. -- Steve Muench

    Post-Draft Analysis
Blacklock fills a need on the Texans' defensive front after losing D.J. Reader in free agency. In 2019, Houston allowed 3.2 yards per rush before first contact, third worst in the league. Blacklock has the athletic traits, technique and lateral movement skills to develop into an interior disruptor in the NFL with pass-rush upside. -- Matt Bowen

Crazy first-step quickness. True penetrating DT. Some hand use but must improve there and in the strength department. Much-needed addition on the interior of the defensive line. (Chris Trapasso) A-

Personel wise, texans' look more like a 4-3 team in the front 7, give or take an LB or maybe a Wade Phillips 3-4.

At least 8. If not more.

At least we didn't trade up for Blacklock. Like I said yesterday, I think he was our trade up target.

Not feeling the pick, first time in years but I hope he eats, clogs and flushes the pocket.
