Shouldn't we be protesting outside the White House because of Spray Tan's response to the virus?

They may not be physically harmed (although that is certainly a possibility - apparently some were assaulted by the police), but there are other ways for the government to punish those brave enough to publicly protest. Restrictions on using public transport. Losing the license to operate their business at all, much less after the mall reopens. Telling their landlord to evict them. I would think that the protesters know all of that is a possibility, which makes what they did appear to truly be an act of desperation, in my opinion.

In this case, they were protesting the mall owner for "hanging them out to dry," and it sounds like they have a very legitimate beef. I think the local/provincial government would be wise to listen to them and insure that they are treated fairly by the mall owner. Whether they do or not will probably depend on "guidance" by functionaries of the Xi regime, who may not want to appear to be positively responding to a protest, regardless of how justified it may be, in my opinion. Heck, we may never truthfully find out what the results of this protest were. I'm a little surprised that it was reported at all, even if that was quickly suppressed.

The PRC is at a very delicate position right now. Most of the people understand what the lockdowns are for but aren't happy with them. The situation with Dr. Li Wenliang there was a lot of chatter on Chinese social media about him including very critical of the government. Normally things like that would've been cracked down on like mentioning Daryl Morey but a lot of it was allowed. The government even went so far as to formally apologize to Dr. Li's family and they too are now calling him a hero. They also purged the very Wuhan and Hubei governments that had suppressed Dr. Li. Why the CCP backed down on this from what I've been hearing is the fear that this situation could spin out of control and that Dr. Li could become a martyr to a government that was more interested in keeping things quiet rather than face up to the hard truth of the disease.

As I said in my earlier post this crisis is unlike anything the PRC has faced. It can't be blamed on outside forces (they've tried), it can't be blamed on counter revolutionaries, and they can't just throw money at it. Launching a crackdown on peaceful protesters is certainly possible but it also risks making the situation much worse.

@rocketsjudoka agree with you, for people that lost a loved one, that resentment is going to linger for a generation. The bubbles need to keep going cos legitimacy is now tied to delivering prosperity. If that evaporates people will start wondering if the trade-offs are still worth it.

    Andd they're all dead.

Things are back to normal in the beautiful kingdom of Mau. The reopened wet markets are seeing some loss of profits, but they should soon recover.
