Not the biggest issue these days by any means, but still, I hope this story gets updated at some point. https://www.voanews.com/science-hea...ump-allies-put-unproven-virus-drug-work-texas Personally if I had a relative in that nursing home, I would be outraged.
This idea that anyone including liberals support this lockdown is weak. Whatever the damage to Trump politically the damage to many liberals and to those who they want to protect is enormous. The people bearing the brunt of this aren't the wealthy 1% it is the working class, small business, immigrants, and what we are finding out non-whites are succumbing to this disease far more than white people. While there are people who may be so wrapped up in ideology they don't care what happens to those who are suffering most people want this to end. They want it to end though knowing that the disease is controlled and that it won't come back even if that means short term economic pain.
Says the guy who has been whining for the last 3.5 years. This coronavirus has made me frustrated so i know how you have been feeling since trump. I expect i might feel upset come november but i sure wont let it consume me like a few of yall do.

I guess I come from it from a somewhat different perspective. I see Trump the man as a flawed individual who doesn't bother with the social niceties that most would engage in if we weren't all hidden behind screens. I watched the primary debates for the last election, and I thought he was being a bully. At the same time, some part of me responded to it, and I found myself enjoying the debates and to varying degrees rooting for him. Not saying this was a proud moment. I was in the camp of "he will move to being more Presidential when called upon". I agree that his personal interactions (including over social media) are shockingly immature and heavy-handed. However, I have spent most of a lifetime dealing with people who span the gamut: there are extremely cultured, polite individuals who (surprise!) rob you blind. Conservative or liberal -- plenty of assholes to go around. There are plenty of uncouth asses who end up loyal and reliable. Surface, at the end of the day, while initially important, just isn't an accurate indicator for who is likely to rob you blind, figuratively or literally. On balance, I think Trump has been a superficial embarrassment. No question. He may also have deeper flaws (beyond insecurity and need for praise) that extends to self-dealing. On the other side of the balance, I don't think all of the criticisms are warranted. I know this is an unpopular opinion and most posters on here equate Trump with the devil I think he certainly has shortcomings. Just like I think most leaders do. His shortcomings unfortunately are on display and seem worse because they are so avoidable. Bottom line: Would be extremely difficult to put up with him on a personal level. But, the over the top attacks from his critics tends to drive me and I assume others to question the fairness of the attacks, the legitimacy of the arguments and frankly the motive of the political attackers. Do I think he handled Covid 19 perfectly. Of course not. Do I expect a President who is likely confronted with dozens of "emergency situations" a week to get everything perfectly? No. Do I lose respect for those who rewrite history to pretend that everyone but our President was handling it correctly? The sad truth is that in emergencies, one should expect multiple mistakes. Evolving is key. Being willing to change one's position is what marks leadership. So, how would I rate Trump's response to date? "B-" to "B+" If you ignore his off script rants during the daily briefings, the reality is that he, like most world leaders on down, misjudged the initial severity. Since then, if Trump was only capable of delivering a more polished, humble and caring presentation, I would think we could judge his actions better. I think he has done a decent job of dealing with the enormous tsunami of **** that has come with the virus. Yes, thank God for his advisors. Thank God for other voices. But the idea that one individual would have been ready day 1 to deal with this is not believable. (I am just happy that y'all can't downvote me to oblivion) . . .
DAMN... I wish you were my teacher when I was in school... You grade on one helluva curve... Unfortunately I don't agree with your evaluation, but every person is entitled to their opinion... T_Man
That is an unsettling story and is gambling on the lives of those people. If this doesn't work and people die from the side affects Dr. Armstrong should lose his medical license. If he's going to gamble the lives of his patients his medical license should be at risk too.
What do you credit him for to give him such a great grade handling this pandemic? (40 countries suspended flights to wuhan prior US, if you decide to suggest that this move was amazing enough to overlook everything else that was done wrong.) As far as emergencies he has to face, all the real emergencies are, more often than not, of his own doing (latest being impeachment and Iran's general assassination). If he was reading security briefs, have kept his pandemic teams and protocols in place and placed experts, instead of political hacks and/or family members, in position to lead his numerous federal agencies, he'd likely have way less people dying than 60K (latest projection). We are the richest country. Our medical system is considered the best. People were saying that we have ton of ICUs per capita relative to other countries and yet we have just started to flatten the curve. You cannot compare us to Italy. Germany. We compare ourselves to them. They had pandemic registering there a week earlier than us (begin. of March) but they have flattened their curve 2 weeks before us (around mar 23rd). Not surprisingly, they had 40% fewer deaths (per capita). With more time to prep there would also be less corruption going on - we'd better oversight by Congress. And less issues with PPE for hospitals and general public. And less fear (for those of us who are in high risk groups and in general) No cooperation with WHO, no cooperation with China despite having policies and people in place for these specific reasons (pandemic). Instead he proclaimed it to be a hoax thereby setting people up in their ways (to ignore it as nothing more than a flu) and thus prolonging the quarantine rules and economic hardship.
Let's take Trump's lies out of it. Let's Trump's treatment of actual experts on infectious disease out of it. Let's take Trump's tweets out of it. Let's take Trump's treatment of the press out of it. While we do that, let's realize there is no reason why we should. He should be held accountable and taken to task for all of those things just like anyone else would be. But for the sake of argument, let's not look at those things. Let's look at our response as a nation to this virus. South Korea and United States had their first documented case of Covid19 on the same day. Look at the difference now. We currently have more than 16,500 deaths as a result of this virus. We know that part of the problem is that social distancing still isn't followed in many cases. Those are just facts. Let's look at Trump has done. 1. Before this started Trump closed the office dealing with a response to Pandemics. That is the office that would have been briefed when the President was back in January and would have started stockpiling and gathering resources to deal with this pandemic. 2. Trump repeatedly said that it wasn't serious and told Americans that it would go away. 3. Trump said the cases were decreasing and other Republicans encouraged people to go on with their lives, visit restaurants and take trips. 4. Trump did not shut down travel with China, did not quarantine people coming from China, kept travel with the UK ongoing for days after he restricted other people. 5. For months despite having a warning that this was a serious threat, did not mobilize to gather supplies, advocate social distancing, and called this 'a flu'. 6. Trump has said that he takes no responsibility for it. Trump has since reversed course. Many of his supporters still aren't social distancing and don't believe it is all that serious despite all of the deaths in our nation and how much worse our nation has handled this compared to other nations. So just judging by Trump's actions and the results of his actions, I can't see that there is any other rational appraisal of his work other than it has been a horrible failure, cost lives, and has been a blatant display of poor leadership. In no way has Trump done the things you want from a responsible, good, or even moderately successful leader. A. He has appointed people to jobs that they have shown they are unqualified for B. He hasn't taken the welfare of the citizens into consideration C. He has not taken responsibility and instead sought to blame others. The guy was given a test and he has failed. He has failed by any reasonable measure.
Remember when Obamacare was dragging on for 365 days in Congress and you got Palin crying about Death Panels and random Fox News montages of "giddy riddy of Granny's middycare" or some BullShit to make the seniors shake in their rockers? Boy have times have changed. And yes... it comes full circle for those who paid attention to all 7 seasons without binge watching. Private medicine aint gonna cut it for getting tested unless you got at least 1M followers. Now it's Debt Everything Away by the tens of trillions (Tea Bag who?), and let the weak tough it out in old folks homes. I can only think the Republican elites think End Times is nigh. Some kind of End Game involving Bezo's spaceships to the moon and Mars. ...Except Trump is banned for life (JEFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!), and he gets to ride b**** on Putin's rocket.
To get a better feel of who Trump really his, you should have tried looking more at his past (pre-candidate) imo. He is simply a self-serving, do-whatever-I-can-getaway-with person, with no care for the interest of (or consequences) to others
Right. You can expect a candidate move a little on the political spectrum post-election but I find it questionable when people expect a candidate to become more "presidential." I guess in terms of optics and public perception (like a non-aristocrat having to follow Royal traditions upon marrying into a royal family). But deep down the guy will remain whatever he was prior to becoming POTUS. Trump is not a teenager to grow out of his set ways. Trump had no choice but to alter course once virus deaths started mounting. He is no leader. Leader is someone capable of uniting country in a time of crisis. We have a crisis. Yet polls are as divisive as ever
The holes built into the recovery bill combined with a weak inspector general, and you can already see what is going to happen. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/09/coronavirus-recovery-bill-fed-records-176371
Take that and somehow it equals to this- makes perfect sense lol.. lovely illustration that trump could kill a baby on 5th ave and people would be ok with it. This coming from someone that seemingly wasnt/isnt a fan! Lol.. talk about the opposite of the president office being held to any standard ..and its easy to laugh when if it was bill clinton we would be worried about linda tripp gossip( rip sorry to hear about your hero) or worried about a tan suit! This is madness but shameful. The funny part is if get down to brass tacks and rattle off actual actions of trump its ends up being bad decision after bad decision and we would look at each move and be like "yep we shouldn't have done that" more insanity. I mean as trump says "what you have to lose?" ....umm your life? You cant make this up guys... Of course on top of that somehow a guy calling the virus a hoax deserves a B?...lol I just cant..
I get it. You supported him in 2016. And you fully intend to support him in 2020. He wears an "r" badge, you are a republican, and that's how you prefer to vote. And maybe, just maybe you hoped what you thought about trump, that he was a successful and rich businessman with a TV show, well, that some of that would translate to being a successful president. Despite his past unethical actions. And despite the things he said and doe that were... what was your word... "uncouth"? Or "flawed"? And I get it. You want to somehow justify your support. In a previous post I mentioned how trump supporters will often say "I wouldn't want him to date my daughter". Or "I am not voting for a pope". Or, "gee, everyone is criticizing him all the time and driving me to support that much harder". Just read your reasons for supporting him. You describe someone you would not want as a neighbor. Yet you'd vote for him again to lead our country. You thank God for advisers... advisers this most flawed person has chosen to advise him that display many if not most the same flaws he has and make equally unethical decisions as he does. Many if not most are not subject to congressional review and approval (for the obvious reason that they wouldn't be approved). But hey... its America, and everyone has a right to support whoever they want.
