I'm looking to put together a simple webpage. Mostly text with maybe a few pics. I know nothing about html so what is my best choice?
Front Page is the cheapest, best WYSIWYG HTML editor, though it is not free. FP does come with a bunch of web page styles that make creating a web page (or a set) much easier. Thus, you do get something of value for your money. The Mozilla browser (as well as the old Netscape browser) has a WYSIWYG HTML editor as part of it. This editor is meant more for editing pages in place though, but it is free. (I suspect if you looked hard enough you could find license keys for Dream Weaver to set it *free*).
I'm not trying to be a prick, but if the site is going to be as simple as you describe, you could just use notepad.
www.coffeecup.com Their HTML is free for 45 days. This is what I used to build my wife's webpage and found it to be VERY user friendly, with the WYSIWYG preview window. It includes alot of auto-matic JAVA features too as well as FTP software to get it uploaded.
If you're just look for the basic of the basics, go with the one that comes with the Mozilla browser. Or the one that comes with OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org).
I was also going to suggest the one that comes with Mozilla. Not firefox, but the full mozilla suite. It's decent. http://www.mozilla.org
FrontPage EXPRESS comes with IE. Anyone with IE and a Windows system should have it. It's probably the easiest, most basic, HTML editor out there.
Be careful with Frontpage, though. It adds so much unnecessary crap to the code. The Mozilla one isn't supposed to be too bad.

No. Mozilla, I think, is trying to break out the components of its ominbus browser/email reader/news reader/HTML editor/etc. Firefox is their standalone browser component. Maybe a standalone HTML editor will be released later (if it is even a priority for them).
Thanks. From the searching I've done Frontpage Express wasn't added to IE after 5.0 if I read everything properly.
I'm not talking about earning a living. I'm talking about how it has a tendency to not work with Mozilla-compliant browsers because of what it adds.
My FP web site (http://users3.ev1.net/~bnwest) has never had a problem in IE, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, or Firefox. I must being staying on the straight and narrow.
Ok...so we've found out Faos isn't very bright when it comes to webpage design. Now...where do I go in Mozilla once I've downloaded it to begin?
Exactly right. I used FP to design my site, and it looks like crap in Mozilla Firefox. I need to undergo an overhaul soon.
File -> Edit Page You can start with a page you like and go from there or you can create an empty .htm file in Notepad and load that into the browser then into the editor.
