I think they're simplifying what is a more complicated question. If you turn off the world for months it will cause extreme
hardships, layoffs, destruction of companies, people isolated for months, people not going to the doctor, deferring medical treatment, staying indoors and not exercising and an eventual rise in interest rates due to government spending.

These are not just financial hits, but these eventually kill a lot of people due to stress, financial hardships, suicide and more.

So if this virus which seems to be that the denominator is much larger than we thought so the percentage it kills is much lower as well.
So the number potentially killed by Corona versus turning off the world may not make it that easy of a question.

The reality is kills very few people except older people with underlying health conditions.

I think we should suggest self-isolation for people that are older or have health conditions. We keep them safe, provide support if needed and create services to allow them to get clean, deliveries specially set up for people with high risk.

And everyone else goes on with their lives. They all keep the system going and we spend more to take care of those that are susceptible to the virus.

Lol, what precisely is the risk calculation you're doing here?

What's precisely the level of danger we're weighing against when deciding to work or not work?

I am willing to die to keep these COVID patients alive. The economy will recover. These patients at least deserve a chance.

This is all stupid. How long as the country been under quarantine? 10-12 days? Yet we are already having this conversation? There is no reason the lock down cannot last a month or at the extreme 6 weeks. The rest of the entire world is doing the same thing. A stimulus package was passed for this very reason.

No one is changing America. What all of this is about is assholes like Fertitta that are leveraged out their ass hoping to not lose their “stuff”.

The infrastructure is entirely in place as is a skilled work force. Know what can devastate an economy? A SICK work force.

No they won’t be moving in with you. They will die from COVID. Actually you will be dead from the virus as well. You all will die by working so people like I can have more ****. Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of your car.

This strikes me as a parallel to the climate change debate. The behavior of Fox News and some of these Republicans with respect to the virus underscores the difficulty in addressing something like climate change that is so much more gradual than getting a fever and dying within a couple of days.

But but but we need our coal and oil for our jerbs that won't matter when there's finally widespread destruction.

Are you sure you wouldn't die for your kids(economy)?

Think about how they could tell your future grandchildren that their grandpa saved the economy!
