I just addressed this in a response to another thread. This argument that PC culture is to blame and that if we weren't so PC we could've prevented this ignores that long before we were PC there were still pandemics. It also ignore that there are real consequences for ignoring or just accepting bias and bigotry towards Asians under the arguments that either it's not as important in light of other things or that we have to exact our pound of flesh from the Chinese. First, Chinese and Chinese culture is more than the Peoples Republic of China. Most of the people being targeted in bias attacks aren't from the PRC and in many cases aren't even Chinese. I doubt the attacker of the student who was stabbed in London checked to see what country he was from.. This is the same ignorance that led to Sikhs being attacked following 9/11 because many people couldn't tell the difference between a Sikh and a Muslim. Second, is there are real consequences towards this. This crisis started in Wuhan and even though the PRC did a terrible job dealing with it initially the fact is that they have the most experience dealing with it and appear to be turning the corner on it. As a pandemic this means that this isn't a national crisis but a crisis for our whole civilization. The PRC is already sending aid and medical expertise to other countries, we could greatly benefit from that too. At the same time Taiwan is sending 100,000 surgical masks a week to the US. Even though we need to close our borders and practice social distance it doesn't mean that we aren't helping each other. Using this crisis to justify xenophobia is going to make it worse.
1) PC Culture has nothing to do with why Donald Trump was briefed in January about a pandemic and decided to start calling it the "new impeachment hoax" and doing nothing to prepare for it. It was purely selfish re-election goals on his part that led to that decision making. Well, that and his inherent stupidity. 2) China is better equipped to deal with something like this because they have the state power to shut down everything without protest and utilize their surveillance state.
I don't think you understand. If it was not for PC culture, we wouldn't have a lack of testing, we would have kept the gov pandemic response in tact, we would have enough PPE for a pandemic, ... and btw, Trump was being PC when he wouldn't close down all borders from day 1 (it has nothing to do with trade and busn). Now that we are moving away from PC culture with an organized approach from the US gov to call it the "Chinese Virus", we will solve our lack of testing, we will have rapid response with a nation coherent strategy, we will have ventilators and PPE for anyone that need one... and even before this, by being non-PC and calling it exactly what Trump felt it was - a hoax - sure did wonder. As I said before, calling it the Chinese Virus is creating a political common enemy to distract from the abysmal failure of this admin. It doesn't create a single new ventilator or mask.
I’m starting to think it’s been around longer than we realize. In early Feb, I had a fever, chills, and was coughing and wheezing. Went to the dr and tested negative for flu and strep. They gave me tamiflu anyway and figured it was just a false negative. The fever and chills went away after 2 days but the wheezing and coughing hung around for a few weeks. Not saying I had the virus because I wasn’t tested for it. I have no idea. But looking back at those symptoms, I do wonder.
The Communist Chinese Govt tried to blame this on America so yeah throwing it back as the China Virus was a clear message and statement. Politics bro. This worry about racism or xenophobia is a distraction and anecdotal. And quite frankly no one here is supporting people abuse or hurting people based on their ethnicity or race. That is condemned by all here I am certain and by a majority of Americans. That goes against American values at the end of the day. And that number of attacks is minimal and while interesting, not something most need to worry about. Sorry for them, but call it the America virus and guess what? People won't start attacking Americans. That is because we all know it comes from China. So calling it China Virus isn't changing that reality comrade. China is laughing right now because people are infighting instead of blaming them after they intentionally let it loose upon the world.
Actually you are right. He didn't close it down fast enough. No one did because they were too scared of political and economic problems.
Extremely possible it was routine viral pneumonia. Somewhat possible if you're in an international city it was Wuhan Virus going under the radar. But regardless glad you recouped man.

Nice to know the number of attack is minimal ..... what a great news if I am not Chinese. I don't know how many minimal attacks I can take but I am preparing bullets for it ... Cannot believe I had to do this in this MAGA shithole.
At least we haven't started welding people in their homes yet...thank God for democracy, it's not perfect especially now but it's better than communism.
I hope it's possible he gives his workers some sick leave so yea there is hope no matter how unlikely.
