The longer this drags out , the more that possibility grows.

I would expect most of Ferntits "wealth" to be in assets , not so much cash. There could easily come a point where he's over leveraged and forced to sell off assets.

Fertitta is profiting big on Waitr Holdings... this is skyrocketing over past two days.

Had no idea he owned it until I looked.

If Tillman is forced to liquidate the Rockets or his other business ventures (which probably have a higher profit margin than running an NBA team does), I think he chooses to sell the team for lower than $2.2 billion.

Be careful what you guys wish for. The man could always sell it to a new owners or group that moves the team out of the state after a year.

The league isn’t going to approve a move from Houston.

The days of moving to smaller cities simply for an arena are over. All pro sports teams now realize that the real money is in media deals, and local media deals, which makes the market size the most important factor overall.

In hindsight, OKC wouldn't exist... Memphis wouldn't exist... New Orleans wouldn't exist... but they've now made the most of those lesser situations. For the NFL, the Titans/Oilers lost a significant chunk of overall franchise value by moving to Nashville. Same reasoning why the Rams moved away from St. Louis, despite having a new stadium deal there, and their franchise value shoots up infinitely in LA.

Some potential owners may not actually care about that and just want a team in their hometown.

Nicely detailed but ignorant analysis. I am guessing if the disease instantly lost its ability to spread today we would still see 12-13k deaths.

I think it’s funny that you all think the rockets would still be worth 2.2 billion in the midst of a depression just because that’s what it sold for last time. Every company in the country would kill to be able to sell for what they were worth a few months back.

    The Rockets aren't moving.
You guys are going crazy with speculation.

Les would have moved the team to Shanghai or Wuhan if the league let him.

That's why there's a commissioner... and one owner can't make moves that adversely effects the league's bottom line or potential revenue.

If an owner is from Jacksonville Florida, he can't simply move a team there because he wants to. If it makes zero financial sense for the league, it will be veto'd.

It doesn’t matter what they want. The other owners have to approve it.

You mean the same owners that approved of the Sonics moving to OKC? Oh wait...
