This just feels like capitulation ("get me out no matter the price!"). The problem is the news keep on getting worse with whole industries essentially shutting down, so there is no question -- a recession is coming. The question to people investing or trading is how long will this recession last and when will it end.
A recession is coming, or correction, however you want to say it. But just remember this, you never LOSE money if you don’t sell.
I didn't think it would get below 300 for a while...surely not 250...today: Stock price: BA (NYSE) $189.08
LOL! Yeah, looks a bloodbath tomorrow. I guess Trump didn't prop up the economy enough during his speech.
But you can make money if you sell then buy back later when it’s lower. Glad I exited 90% of my positions today.
Man my 401k got hit hard, I did a calculated but risky move and took a Personal Loan against it like a few weeks back (I dunno I looked at previous pandemics and figured worse case I'd be out $50 fee and some small losses if it went up, which was highly doubtful, I actually intended on this to be a very short term thing and going right back...). There's no tax penalty or early repayment penalty etc. Soooo it basically saved me major loss since it's not vested atm and only at 5% apr. The 5% loss over a year (if I do nothing and this lasts... ) is a lot better than the 20%+ hit and counting I've taken since it's basically safe from play in the account. My plan is to attempt to time when I feel the market is more stable, this won't gain crazy money I mean over long game of 401k but.... It's nice to have borrowed at the top for sheltering it. Obviously I could time this stupid and break even but... I feel so far the first part of this has played out decent. I know y/y 401k is always going to be +average on returns but I felt really off with all the news and went with my gut finally so I might be able to gain some bigger returns. What's also nice is the loan doesn't impact my ability in the company program so I've still been getting benefit of new funds from paychecks being matched. I know this doesn't help now and your program might not offer that but I just wanted to share this, again I definitely wouldn't do it now on the bottom (well hopefully bottom soon), and most people time this off, but w/ all the reports I felt pretty confident it was going to hit. Again, this is against financial advice, but... I've been following this virus and felt really odd about the situation. I got fortunate on the timing. Now though with where everythings at, it's probably best to leave it and keep adding more to it.
Yes, absolutely if you exit at the right time can definitely make money reinvesting , but if you're stuck at the bottom on huge dip better to stay normally. Unless.... You think you can time it right and rebuy at a better position. I've just seen some guys that sell and quit stocks etc. That's where you lose money on this saying or not having a plan - so not reinvesting/repositioning like you mention... I've like literally seen people lose 50% sale positions and quit.... And then complain when it comes back like 3-4x etc. And then rebuy in... It's like, what??! Hahha obviously you know this but it's interesting to see
Futures are locked at 5%, but looking at the stocks premarket I'm seeing a lot down between 10-20%. Silver, Gold, Bitcoin, commodities also crashing. Global liquidity squeeze.
I was planning on moving a good chunk of money into a bit more aggressive portfolio -- my planner sent the info yesterday... I had meant to do it a few weeks ago. Bullet dodged.
