I don’t believe both can be true. How can you support removing the President and then voice your approval for him at the same time? I think some people say what they think the pollster/media wants to hear, and in this case perhaps that meant voicing support for impeachment when they didn’t really support it at the end of the day.
WHO declared a global emergency on 1/30. The senate trail ended 5 days later. Even if team trump was 100000% distracted during those 5 days, they lost only 5 days. It definitely was not a priority and that’s why they were flat footed. It is still not a top priority with the way trump is downplaying and lying about it now. He is back to his old bs game and we all know virus don’t react to bs.
Who cares? It has risen and fallen many times since impeachment started back in Octobert, though always staying in the band of bad to mediocre. How's it trending recently? On the core question of impeachment, which you stated to lack popular support, you were shown to be incorrect on an empirical basis. Since you apologized though, I think we can consider the matter closed
Txtony: Agree that impeachment is no longer any factor and hasn’t been for several weeks now. Also agree that the administration and federal government must up their game here.
So you don’t care if he gives the public false information and/or lies to the public about the corona virus. The public being the citizens of the United States of America. Since apparently you don’t care about trump’s lies and his overall bizarre behavior on camera, here another suggestion for you. There are numerous threads in D&D about the “impeachment trial.” Your obsession with it should be addressed in those threads, not here, where all you are doing is derailing a discussion of immediate interest.
trump actually called for cuts in CDC funding and in NIH spending in his budget. He had to be embarrassed to recommended separate funding for Coronavirus funding and even then came up with only $2.5B, a chunk of it was simple rerouting of already budgeted spending. It was only congress than just passed the $8.3B bill that he just signed. But ignoring funding failures, trump and his administration's constant missteps and broken promises are contributing to public fears, mistrust, and the growing problem.
I think the problem is this : Your lives are worth less than a stock. If this had happened elsewhere this man would be prosecuted by the government, yet in USA he is given a platform and goes in tv saying such horrifying things like it is nothing. So far studies show that those in their 70s have a 10% mortality rate. 10%!
Trump's approval rating never passed 50% during impeachment. It absolutely can be true that even though Trump's approval rating rose a majority of Americans still wanted him removed.
Easy. I can say, well, I approve of something trump just said or did, but I can also think that overall, he has been a terrible president and want him gone, or I can't put up with the way trump behaves, and I'd rather have a different president. You ask a specific question and you get a specific answer. Asking if you support the impeachment trial is a specific question. Asking if you want a different president is a specific question. Asking it you "approve"? Not so specific. Its like trump tweeting that the US public is confident that the government will solve the Coronavirus crisis. He was hoping people would believe that people had confidence in him, personally. While some trump supporters and other idiots would get confused and believe that... hopefully most sentient people understand the difference. That people have confidence in the CDC and NIH but not trump.
In the end we are all delusional. Not just america the whole West. We have been pampered by our luck and by science and take for granted medicine and cure as long as you have the $ and the doctor available. "These scary epidemics with so many deaths can happen only to some 3rd world countries in Africa" "Look at these poor and dirty Chinese how they are suffering! Good thing I live in a better and safe country and nothing can hurt me" "I am white, educated and rich so the virus at most will be like a flu! Big deal" No, no matter how rich you are with no medicine and no cure you could have the same protection as someone in Iran. At best you can get oxygen or become the experiment of doctors treatments. But that is only if the healthcare system isn't overwhelmed and collapsed with 70%+ getting infected. That is only if all the hospitals aren't already infected and all doctors sick themselves. The best protection we can get with all our money is based solely on rigid public health measures.
Probably a lot of folk that agree with him too. In America there isn't anything with more power than the almighty dollar.
I'm in the hospitality/service industry and it is pretty tough out there as you can imagine. What is interesting is that I've seen business owners on LinkedIn/social media basically downplaying the virus. While I think everyone can agree there is some unfounded panic out there, the same reasoning should easily lead one to conclude this is worse than a flu season. I mean if I own a bar in Houston, maybe I'm pissed since it seems a bit premature if people stopped partying already. But if I'm holding a convention in Houston with people from Seattle/LA/NYC/international, hard to say people should just chill out and not care - whether it is at the convention or from the airport.
