It's stupid but also common. I repeated this exact clip to someone today in my office and they didn't think the math was wrong as I said it. We argued for a moment about before they really vetted in their mind. It's a bit tricky word problem, problem 4th or 5th grade level thinking.

    actually, just the opposite happened

as Williams was wrapping up the show, he corrected the error, and make fun of it, saying that

“it appears that both Mara & I had flunked the same math class”

On a side note Mara is looking great these days.

What happened to Sandra Bernard? She is pretty. I also likeaKaen Finey.
I used to hang out a a sports bar that would have Fox News during happy hr. It was perfect, no sound but some fine women.

Murdoch and Ailes know how to market. Fox Business News had some awesome looking women

why does this get its own thread?

Does every blunder or error in the media get its own thread?

Nice, Bloomberg net worth around 54 billion divided evenly to around 327 million Americans. $177 each sweet.

So, "You're Not as Smart as a Fifth Grader?", in real life?

I found it pretty hilarious, and fitting. Let's call it Bernie Math. In Bernie Math, yes you can take $500 Million Dollars and give $1M to 327 Million people. And wouldn't that be awesome, to just get $1M dollars! Of course it would! Those eeeevil rich people for keeping that from happening!

That's rather irrelevant to the discussion ....

He has a point about "Bernie Math." These are the same kinda statements we keep hearing from Bernie supporters when we ask them how they are gonna pay for it.

We'll just tax the billionaires .... never mind taking 100% of all US billionaires net worth leaves you $96T short.

Most things these people say are moronic, it's just this one, by entering the maths sphere was easily verifiable.

That is involved MSNBC, NY Times and WaPo (the original post), was just icing really.

But Gell-Mann amnesia will lead people to believe the next thing they say.

People on here made that same mistake recently. Is this a math class? Ever try doing math in front of live cameras to be criticizing people as 5th graders?

I might concede that if they hadn't missed it by 6 zero's.

They were trying to make a statement and acting all morally , ethically and academically superior while doing it ....

The part about them acting morally righteous is funny and probably pretentious (although we can't be sure) but is that really what OP or @BigDog63 had in mind. They just call them people out as "stupid" or "not smart".

edit: although posting it on twitter right away is pretty ridiculous...

Hilarious that you out of all people would make fun of other people for being dumb. You quite frequently display poor reasoning skills and flawed logic on here.

This must be why they support costly health programs for even non citizens and other initiatives that require insane amounts of funding....

The reason it tricked them is because people don’t realize the denominator is in the millions.

if I say I have 100 million cupcakes and 100million people to feed a lot of people would wrongly say each could have 1million, not because they are dumb but because they tricked themselves on the million being said twice
