But that's the point right? The Bernie argument is that he is the one who will build the broad coalition, turn out new voters and the largest voting revolution in history. That appears to have collapsed.
Biden being labeled a technocrat is definitely a new one. I always saw him as a platitudic warm fuzzy patriotic feelings guy.
You are highlighting why people get annoyed with Sanders. You can still be a progressive even if you don't agree with 100% of Bernie's platform. Bernie doesn't have a monopoly on progressive values or ideas. His whole campaign is so toxic and is built around the idea that only he has the answers for America's challenges. That's both insulting to everyone else and its based on a fantasy world where the only voters in America are urban voters and young millennials. Lastly Minnesota is far from a hyper liberal state. The DFL's success here is built in part because of a healthy moderation in its politics and a focus on consensus building between urban and rural Democrats. Minnesota is one of the last states in the US to elect rural Democrats to the state legislature. You can't do that without finding consensus. This is all stuff that Sanders doesn't get because he seems to live in a bubble and constantly attacks anyone who doesn't share his exact view. And with that, you are writing off large portions of the US that are willing to vote for Democrats but don't necessarily agree with Sanders's my way or the highway outlook on policy making.
He'll build the broad coalition of those who already buy into his ideology and currently support him. Everyone else? Notsomuch. Any coalition he builds would detract from his platform. I don't see him doing that. Core believer in what he believes.
annnnnnd gg it's over. Congratz moderates. Bernie is no longer a viable candidate, he will hold out all the way to the convention (if we get to one), he won't drop out and endorse Biden in a timely manner, he will try use his support as leverage to get Biden to adopt as many as his policies as he can. This will piss moderates off, same way it did when Bernie did it Hillary. Overall for me, sad. Our country is decades behind on social programs, Biden won't give us a chance to fix this. I feel Biden gets smashed by Trump, hope he doesn't!
Bernie is not doing well at all. He currently has a narrow lead in Texas, which is shocking. Currently with under 29% of the Texas vote, with 45% counted, Joe with over 25%, now 26%, Bloomberg with over 18%, and Warren looks likely not to get to the required 15% to get delegates. Bernie has to be disappointed. Texas has hardly turned out to be the “firewall” he expected it to be. The Texas delegates will be divided, unless things change drastically, between Bernie, Biden, and Bloomberg. Biden is declared the winner in Massachusetts, with Warren coming in 3rd, which is stunning. Maine, in Bernie’s backyard, Is neck and neck between Bernie and Joe. Biden is ahead in Minnesota, check that, won in Minnesota. Joe didn’t even campaign in Massachusetts and Minnesota. He spent under $12,000 in Massachusetts. He spent about half a million in Virginia and won. Bloomberg spent $18 million and got squat. I expect Bernie to have a great night in California. If he ends up with under 50% there, which I don’t expect, it would be a real blow to his campaign in my opinion. Warren’s performance has been a disaster. Simply a disaster. If she drops out, who does she endorse? I would assume Bernie, but who knows. This has been a crazy few days. Joe Biden should have campaign dollars pouring in now. He needs the money. The man has been operating on a shoe string. He’s won 8 or 9 states, so far, to something like 3 for Bernie, and he can’t ties his shoes. One shoe string. Joe is the voice of the middle class.
I've seen similar low hanging fruit rhetoric attacking Bernie by moderate candidate supporters here. Don't make generalization comments from one post. This is as bad as "this is why Trump won" from Trump supporters when someone insults Trump or his base. Both Pete and Biden express similar rhetoric in that they state they are the only ones who can unite the country. You throw around the "toxic" label to willy nilly here.
I learned a lot tonight. I was a bit too emotional when Pete dropped out. What a massive turn. Amazing stuff. Ultimately, I care about electing a Democrat. So if Biden will be the guy, then I'll be buying in. Hoping to get the orangeman out of office.
Looks pretty clear this primary has divided younger and older voters. Older voters turn-out more reliably, and they are dictating these results. Younger voters (like me) are unfortunately going to have to suck it up and vote for Biden if he is in fact the nominee. But let's see how this process goes, it's a long way from over.
re: Minnesota. I don't think its nearly the liberal bastion it was previously. There is talk of it being one of the blue states that might flip red. But, gotta admit...seeing Bloomberg, Sanders and Biden in Fargo would be epic!
I think we've known for a while that Bernie is capped in the low 30s% range .... there are only so many people who failed math class that bad.
I'm probably not using the term correctly. I just mean that he knows how the government works, has good connections in Congress to work across the isle and get things done given those facts. Compared to Bernie anyway (who has been labeled a loner with little to show for his years in Congress, supposedly). Edit: Warren has been called a technocrat before. What is her special skill/expertise then?
it’s been an emotional two days. Pete will be given rightful credit for turning this primary on its head. He will be a huge factor in Biden’s campaign and hopefully his administration

I think the most shocking thing from tonight is that Biden increased voter turnout. Who would've guessed that a month ago?
Biden obviously had the big comeback tonight but this race is far from over. There is a LOT of campaigning to come and the real thing to watch for is when/if Warren and Bloomberg drop out. It's also weird to hear of how this was such a huge victory for Biden when it is a very real possibility he could finish Super Tuesday still behind Bernie in delegates.
That 30% will grow to over 50% by... 2032. Bernie will be dead, his movement will be alive, maybe AOC. Around that time the voter demographics will turn massively in favor of progressive populism, the country will have a wave of social democratic policies in attempts to catch us up to all the other highly developed countries. Unfortunately for our people until then, we will have a lot more pain with our healthcare system, education system, poor environmental regulations, lack of climate change action, and overall rapid corruption across the boards.
