The year round ball does seem to take its toll on him Will he ever be a 35+ a game player in the NBA How much does he play in China is he in the WHOLE game? Having him play all game even if tire there would seem to ensure victories. . . . so i figure they probably would i don't know .. . so I'm asking I was not so worried about it at first but now. . . i think long term . . .we will be worn down I'd hate to see him like Rik Smits constant naggin crap because he was working too hard all year round Rocket River
To my memory, in the recent game (Asian tournament) in which YAO played as a player of Chinese National basketball team, he played 48 minutes (full 4 quarters).
members from the post-cipherous'-famous-yao-peaked-post-last-year era have no idea what I am talking about.
No, they must sit at home and rest for the upcoming season! Whatever happened to making your game in the offseason? The great players have always played all year long. My only problem with Yao in China is that he is not playing a strong enough level of competition to really learn from. But if he wants to work on a developing a different shot or defensive tactic, I can't think of a better place to do it. Sorry, I guess I had to respond to my own thread.
Two problems: (1) For US players, Summer work is not as regimented. Sure Hakeem wanted to beat Moses at Fonde, and lunch at Frenchy's may have been riding on the outcome, but it was all in good fun - there was no "stress factor." Conversely, Yao has to lift the entire CNT on his shoulders after 7-9 months of doing the same for the Rockets. (2) YM does not get a chance to work on his game. He is playing the CNT system, and working with those teammates. Working on a new shot, or film work so he can consider his (NBA) weaknesses are secondary. YM is more or less at the point he broke down last season. There has been a dip these last few games, we shall see whether it continues or not. If it does, something MUST be done. Fortunately, Del Harris is coaching the CNT in the Olympics this summer, so the training regimen will hopefully be more "NBA like."
Don't worry guys ... YM is saving it for the playoffs. Did not I read it from here that he had a bet with a Chinese reporter? YM will be all out when the playoffs come to town.
this is why i like that del harris is coaching the chinese NT this year. i think we could really see that as a big benefit to yao and his offseason conditioning since he won't be running the chinese team into the ground during practice. i think harris was a great hire for all parties involved...especially yao.
agree with you i think this off season he should be concerning more on the D than offense learn the foot works in defense and how to block shot little guys flotters shots in offens develop the hook shot, posting quicknest in both end better rebounding possitions or help the team get the rebound if i was les i told to ewing go to china to help them more
as far as I remember, Yao never played more than 25 minutes or so in the asian games until semi-final. so that shouldn't be too much a problem... and as harris is going to china, the training program itself should be better as well. I don't see many problem with Yao's summer training right now
Yeah I remember that thread..I swear, you'd think the Rox would win more Road games cuz some of the "FANS" here show our players no love at all
The more days go by, the stronger Yao is getting... I only see a handfull of guys now who can stop Yao from getting position without borderline fouling him... (and even then, its still probably a foul). Soon enough, nobody will... and then its OVER.
actaully - if Harris doesn't kill them in practice - this summer may be good for Yao. He will be playing better competition, etc. btw - can we get Francis on the US team ?!? Instead of the same players from 2000 and 1996 ?!?
Exactly what I was thinking. Harris will put them through a more conventional trainging style and schedule. Yao will benefit from this as he will be going through an NBA style camp with a coach that will want him fresh for the Olympics. Hopefully, he will be released after the Olympics so he can come back to Houston early and be ready for training camp.
