Due to a carnival party there is now a major outbreak in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany .

Scientists have given up trying to track the chains of infections and consider quarantine.

Today and tomorrow are the last and most major carnival days and even if official carnival festivals are cancelled and banned in most countries there are many unofficial going on.

    Just look up NRW coronavirus.

The epicenter is Heinsberg district where many are already under voluntary isolation and schools closed.
The wife of patient 1 is a kindergarten teacher and toddlers have already been found infected.

Patient also traveled to the Netherlands and it is unknown how he got infected.
He is in critical condition and that's why it took a while to trace his precense to the carnival festival.

Rice University requires a group of employees, students to self-quarantine due to possible coronavirus exposure

Rice University has asked a small group of employees and students to self-quarantine due to a possible coronavirus exposure, according to officials.

The coronavirus alert was posted on the university’s website Saturday night, noting that this action was “out of an abundance of caution.”

“The university is taking all necessary precautionary steps and working closely with and at the guidance of Harris County Public Health,” Rice University wrote in the release.

At this time, the university is not planning to suspend campus operations, events or classes.

“Going forward, we will follow the guidance of Harris County Public Health. We ask that all members of our community take steps to ensure that we all stay as healthy as possible,” Rice University wrote in the release.

Shouldn't that call for more serious action? What prompted the psuedo quarantine?

because of a Rice employee's possible exposure to the coronavirus while on overseas travel (to a country not on the CDC's restricted travel list)”

Some employers were asking workers to work from home (self quarantine) since early jan (return from oversea travel).

Liposomal Vitamin C still available on Amazon and stores, I would definitely start taking a heavy regimen for this flu season. Probably the most effective non-pharm immune system booster, proven stuff. All about keeping your immune system strong - you, me, everyone will get covid 19 either this or next years flu season.

    Useless fun fact:

Corona hasn't hit any former GDR/East German state in Germany, but all West German states (except for Saarland and West Berlin) have Corona cases.

Nutjob theory: Corona is a communist comrade and wants to restore Soviet glory.
Would explain why it hit China early, as they've embraced Capitalism and the Western ways.

130,000,000 people in Japan. Currently just over 200 are infected. It's barely worse than in the US.

Known cases maybe. How many mild cases running around potentially transmitting the virus to others is unknown. We've also seen reports of people testing negative, only to test positive later. If I'm not mistaken, doctors in two different hospitals had to beg to have a patient tested; that patient finally died from the virus. There's a shortage of test kits and this virus can mutate--how effective are the test kits??? Also, it can take weeks for someone to develop a severe, life threatening case... and a mild case can incubate for up to two weeks before a person shows symptoms... so it's likely all over this country already. And, do you trust our government to be on the level with its citizens? I certainly don't.

The only good news is that most will be just fine. But we should all take precautions and take this seriously. If we don't we risk spreading and prolonging this thing.

Good news to see the sustained low fatality rate in other parts of China. I’ve become more cautiously optimistic over the past few days. I don’t think there is much that can be done to truly control the virus spread but it does seem that with better treatment and recognition that patient survival is increasing.
