CCP would care less who wins the election, imo. Lien or Chen, whoever for that matter, neither would have the balls to go independent. that's all CCP cares. difference being Lien would be less aggressive and problematic for the mainland.

;) I thought Chen said something like..."Taiwan doesn't need to go independent from Mainland China....in fact Taiwan is a independence country."

I imagine its kind of not hard to not hate somebody when their government is lobbing missiles around you and threatening invasion.

er, maybe America has some missles pointing China's way? I'm not too sure but if they do I won't be bothered . It's just a natrual thing to do. Emphasizing too much on the missles is just a trick played by Chen.

In other news, the referendum failed and the NZ medias didn't even mention it.

:quote:
President Chen won by fewer than 30,000 votes. Mr. Lien complained that the president had put the military and the police on alert late Friday after the incident in which the skin of the president's abdomen was torn by what Mr. Chen's aides described as a bullet that ended up between his skin and his clothing.

President Chen trailed in most polls before Friday, but appeared to gain a surge of sympathy after he received his wound. The injury occurred as Mr. Chen was riding in a motorcade through his hometown, Tainan, in southern Taiwan.

Nobody in the crowd or the president's guard has publicly acknowledged seeing a gun or hearing any gunshots on Friday. But the celebratory fireworks that greeted Mr. Chen just as he was wounded could have drowned out even loud noises.

By Sunday night, no suspects had been arrested.

Not to mention when the President was shot, the driver rushed past a small hospital 1 mile away and a major hospital 3 hospital only to drive to the 5 mile away hospital owned by the DPP, Chen Shui Bian's party. Also, Annette Lu, the VP, who was supposedly shot in the knee came out of the hospital the next day walking around as if she were just fine. If you saw the supposed picture of her wound, it looks like it went right through her leg, she shouldn't be all fine and dandy afterwards.

Deckard, you are pretty naive to believe that Chen Shui Bian wouldn't stage something like this. So why don't you stop the "total unadulterated garbage."

My relatives live in Taiwan and they hate Chen Shui Bian for what he has done and the power he has abused during his reign as president. He is ruining Taiwan's economy and quality of life. He is as corrupt a leader as they come. Unfortunately, the southerners don't understand or won't care. Their motto during the campaigning. "Even if we starve, we will vote for A-Bian."

Nope. That's what I'll think until it's proven otherwise. All of you conspiracy buffs are just going on guesses, hunches and speculation... along with a dash of wishful thinking. If it's proven that the whole thing was a "stunt", then I will gladly say own up to being mistaken. But I don't think that's going to happen.

You know there is a difference between believing it was staged, and admitting the possibility that it could be staged. I am to the latter. I think others were hoping you are open-minded, and well-versed with that part of the world to not utter quick judgement against the latter.
