There are a lot of news in Taiwan speculating whether this whole thing is played out or something fishy is going on. I am not here to say whether it is or not, but judging from the pics I've seen, together with some of the news sources, some of the things seems weird. The first and second pic shows that the blood stains on the right lower side of the president, very close to his waist area. And although not very clear, that's where the bullet seems to have impacted. The bullet holes on the windscreens shows that it was fired from the front. On the third pic, provided by the doctors, it shows the wound right in the middle, and much higher up from his waist. It was said that the bullet shaved across the president's stomach. This does not match with the pics and information provided earlier. It was also said that there were likely more than one gun man, as they find different bullet shells on the car, and also on the president's protective jacket. If he was really shot, someone must have fired from his side, and another from the vice president's side where she was also shaved by a bullet on her knee. To add twist to the story, it was strange how they didn't get the president to the nearest hospital (which were plenty, and many large ones at that), instead, they went to one 5.6km away, in another town. It was also reported by doctors in the hospital that the president's security personnels went to that particular hospital to check on a few things in the morning before the inccident. The president was concious at all times, but he refused to allow anyone to visit him in the hospital, this included the US representatives. The shot was 2-3cm deep, and 11cm across, but the president was walking unaided entirely before he reached the operation room (this coming from the doctors and DDP spokesman), and that he did not realise he had a bullet wound until he felt wet at the stomach moments after he was shot. If the inccident was entirely true, it's very unlikey that it was under the instruction of either China or the Pan Blue side (KMT). KMT was leading at all polls from every media and research/survey centers, this kind of inciddent will only help Chen (the president) in winning some sympathetic votes from the 'middle voters', and further urge the Pan Blue (DDP) supporters to come out to vote. Hopefully the election is fair and square. btw, I am Taiwanese myself, but have been living in Australia over the last 15 years, but I still travel between both places regularly, and will be working in Taiwan from mid-year onwards. -G'day-
this belongs with all the other interesting theories like how the Falunggong is a cult bent on subverting the CCP and how the Japanese are trying to relaunch the Co-Prosperity Sphere and how the US is trying to hold China down. nonsense without any evidence whatsoever, but apparently Chinese people want to, and apparently really do, believe it.
btw, those comments and I posted earlier about the wound positioning before and after were my own observations, not from any media sources. It was just a thought, I am no detective, and I certainly hope this whole inccident is not played out, as it would be an embarrasement to the entire nation, especially when the world is watching. -G'day-
Lil, You know, the correlation between the timing of your high post frequency and some political (at least in your view) events is intriguing.
I grew up in southen China. My madarin isn't certainly not authentic. but i don't think i have much problem pronoucing the "r" and "l" sounds in either Chinese or English. it's just that when I type Chinese, i tend to not be aware of the difference btween the two.
No harm intended so please don't take offense. Some of my classmates (very good friends) were from Fujian and the way they confuses "rou" and "lou" really cracked me up. However, when they cursed me in their local dialect, I was always like:
they've found two bullet holes in Chen's jacket. apparently multiple shots were fired. at least two hit Chen, one hit the windscreen, and one hit the VP. no one is stupid enough to count on multiple long-range bullets not ricocheting or deflecting off the windscreen, not touching an artery/vein, a torso puncture wound not causing catastrophic shock/trauma, etc. etc. to pull off a conspiracy. i can't believe i have to even say this, but you don't PLAN to have a upper torso puncture wound, you don't PLAN to have your stomach ripped open by a gun at long range. they went to the best hospital in tainan. chi-mei. it's that simple.
it's very likely the shots were fired by an uzi or similar semiautomatic weapon. low power. low accuracy. short range. and if you want to pull off a fake assassination, you simply DON'T ask someone to spray your car with an Uzi at long range and hope for just a flesh wound... some of you guys are simply nuts!
Oh, by the way, the confidence with which you spoke about this event made people believe that you must possess the coolest crystal ball in the history of California.
It was reported only one shot hit Chen, shaving across his stomach, not two, although 2 or more shots might have been fired. Police speculated that the shots were fired at shot range judging from the way it penetrated the windscreen as the fire power of those type of gun is rather weak. And I am not here to argue any cases. Like I said before, I am not here to judge whether it was planned or not, its just my own observation from the pics. The other parts I was basically quoting/translating from news articles from Chinatimes.com, and ETtoday.com. Sorry for not making that clear enough. And I am not nuts, its just the election time and sometimes you just don't know what to believe. -G'day-
Who possesses the deepest understanding of the Mainland-Taiwan relationship? Look no further than Lakers' coach Phil Jackson: "These boys tell me that they have egos. Well, I have one, too."
FYI, The bullet hit VP Liu's knee first. Check out the NYT article. Learn to know all the facts before uttering "Total".
And for your information, I don't actually think this was planned out by the president, because atleast I think he is a lot smarter than this. Plus I wasn't arguing any case, just some observations because the situation is indeed a little weird, and the timing akward, thus anything is possible. People speculates this kind of things since the election is only hours away, similar speculations would have also occured if either Lien or Song was shot instead. -G'day-
