Any recommendations? I have used this friend of a friend the last two times. He sprays a chemical on the carpet (heavy on the spots) and then uses hot water to clean. Back when I lived in apartments I rented a cleaner for U-Haul which has an internal heating element which got the water a lot hotter than the hot water tap. This near steam cleaner got up all of the spots, without using any chemicals (since my cheap *ss would not buy any ). I am thinking this time around I would like to have my carpets *steam* cleaned, with minimal chemicals. My carpets are getting dirtier quicker, since I have used the friend of the friend. I am suspecting that the chemicals he is using is leaving behind a residue. Another possibility is that after 4-5 cleaning my carpet's scotch guard is fading.
you should check out an Orek (sp.) dealer. I rented this unit that doesn't use soap or water. You put this powder down on the carpet and the unit is like something you would use to polish a floor. It has a vibrating round brush that grinds the power into the carpet. It worked alot better for me than a steam cleaner. Took out every stain, made the carpet smell fresh and best of all, no drying time. I think its like $59 for a 3 day rental. Expensive, but alot less hassle.
You don't listen to 610 much, do you? Dirt-Free Carpet Cleaning -- they advertise like every ten minutes . . .
It has...when I had the same question a couple of weeks ago: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74138
They were more expensive than I expected. They charged $400 to do my entire house. They also apllied teflon (think Scotch Guard) which was an additional charge. The carpets are very clean. The real test will be to see how long they stay clean.
