i'm sure one of you computer gurus can help me out. My IE doesn't open. i d/l firefox about a week ago and didnt' have any problems with IE until Tuesday. i never touched any of the settings (at least i don't think i did). when i click on the IE icon i just get the hour glass for a couple of seconds and nothing happens. any suggestions? thanks in advance.
I know what you're going through. One time (well 2 times)...Internet Explorer decided not to open AT ALL. Whenever I'd click on the IE icon, the "Illegal Operation" message would pop up. I could connect to the internet and all, but I had no way of browsing online. I still don't know why that happen. If someone knows the answer as to how that happened please post it. btw, Firefox rocks.
If you have XP, just goto system restore, and restore it to a time that IE was working. This won't delete any documents you had already done, and basically everything is the same. I had to do this when IE was flaring up on me... it was so damn frustrating, because I didn't even have the capability to search the web to download another browser. Ever since then, I've kept Firefox on the system as a backup (and it may be seeing some playing time soon).
Not surprised. Your Internet Explorer decided to crap out. Reinstall IE or start using Netscape, Firefox, Opera.......
You know, that is exactly what's going on with my parents' computer right now. It's running on Windows 98 and they had IE 6 with service pack 1...then one day, out of the blue, it started giving the "illegal operation" screen every time you tried to access it. So, they took it back to the company they bought it from and had them service it; and when I got into town yesterday I saw that the guy apparently re-installed Windows and all the components. Didn't re-format (My dad said he was gonna charge $100 for that ), but totally re-installed. The thing is, about a day after they got it back it started doing the same stuff...again! Complete reinstallation of Windows, and it happened again! This time, even using Windows Explorer and typing in an address where it says "C:\Program Files, etc" would cause the same crash. Luckily they had just networked it with this computer which is in working order and I was able to download the Mozilla Firefox installer and use it on the crap-ified computer in the other room. Firefox works 100% perfectly on that computer, but a fully re-installed IE won't. Sounds to me like it's getting pretty close to reformat time. Not to mention it's about time my parents got the "1000 reasons why Microsoft products totally suck" speach. They did it for me when I got out of line, I guess I'm morally obligated to return the favor Simply stated, I HATE Internet Explorer...this is the 4th time in 2004 that someone I know has had a problem like this.
