The irony is that the Rockets had Covington in 2013 for FREE

Hate to lose Capela. Jeff Van Gundy could have done wonders with him. Is Covington Jeremy Lin part 2?

He wasn't even developed at the time. It took him going to a team that was tanking for years for him to actually develop. He got so many minutes in Phila and he was allowed to make whatever mistakes to learn. He would not have had that same opportunity here and his career may have been different.

He might not be who he is today if he didn't go to Philly and log heavy, consistent minutes. I think it's silly to discount the playing time he got by going to a terrible team.

Covington better come out of the gate firing, because it's obvious that people are barely able to restrain themselves. The b****ing will flow nonstop.

People here are already calling him a scrub and overrated.

What’s done is done. Covington version 2013 didn’t help us then and definitely wouldn’t help us now. All we can hope is that Covington version 2019 can and still be the 3&D player we need.

exactly...this “we had Covington 6 years ago when he wasn’t nearly as good as he is now” is such a stupid talking point on here...it would be less dumb if it was a case where we had Covington in like 2017, let him go for nothing, and then just used assets to acquire him again

So there was no way to get him by dealing Sefelosha instead of Capela?

I remember that while everyone was so high on Canaan and Daniels, I really wanted Covington to stick with us in 2014.

I knew he was going to be a great player; a player that we would need since he could shoot and had the physical tools to be a very good defender.

But he wasn’t ready. That SL performance was terrible while Canaan shined. Daniels was already a playoff hero from the year before. And in the preseason, it became more apparent that he needed more time than the Rockets could afford him at that time. We were trying to contend with Harden and Howard and McHale wasn’t going to play a young inexperienced player who needed reps and major playtime to develop.

Can’t fault the Rockets for letting him go and develop. Wish we could have done it ourselves but Covington need all the minutes he got in Philly to become the player he is today.

No for a variety of reasons. Talent equity, salary matching, roster construction, etc.

It was a Terrible Decision to select Dwight Howard friend Francisco Garcia over a talented Robert Covington.

Robert Covington had a great year with the Vipers, he was D League All Star MVP.

I knew he was talented to be a solid player.

James Harden back then said in 2013 that "Robert can really shoot".

What were the Coaches and Morey thinking in 2013. Well all Coaches are out of the League except for Bickerstaff.

The most ironic thing is that we could have looped him into the trade for Russ while only losing 2 FRP instead of a Capela and a Pick but you gotta save in this economy.

The irony is, Houston could have had Nikola Jokic instead of drafting Clint Capela in 2014.
The irony is, Houston could have had Draymond Green or Khris Middleton instead of drafting Royce White in 2012.

    Hindsight. Is. Twenty. Twenty.

In a way this is like the high school coach taking Jordan out of his team. He looks dumb after MJ turns into goat status but at the time Jordan sucked what was the coach supposed to do?

This is probably the same reason here Morey cut RoCo cuz he sucked, Morey has always valued multi purpose forwards (Ariza, GG, Squid, Battier, Brewer etc) so if he cut RoCo then Roco must have been a scrub at the time. If Roco remained a rocket and just sat on his ass in the bench the way Hartenstein is doing now will he develop into 2nd All NBA defensive team? I doubt it.

You forgot pairing Kawhi Leonard with James Harden. The biggest D'oh of Morey's career lol.
