Uh, in one of those years his largest contract "Yao Ming" was out with injury and was being covered by insurance, so technically LES made MORE that year - and Insurance paid the lux tax. FOLLOW the money - always. DD
The reason this site even exists is that Les tried to move the Rockets to KENTUCKY. This actually almost happened. If you babies have a conniption fit when Brandon Knight is traded, I can only imagine your head would have exploded in the darkest days of Les’s ownership. Don't be a stupid person .... they had plenty of opportunity to duck the tax. They didn't. He fully intended to pay the piper to win a championship. He knew those opportunities don't come around often having been in the league for nearly two decades. That's more than you can say for Ferntits , you know , the guy who dismantled a 65 win team that was a CP3 rubber band away from knocking off the most talented team ever assembled .... to save a few bucks.

Les wasn't a great owner but he did elevate Dawson and hired Morey. And let's be honest, he was better than Charlie Thomas. Rockets have never had a great owner, but not many clubs have. Cuban is unusual.
Cuban sold his business and bought the nba team he loved. A true fan living his dream. It was a dumpster fire and now he’s turned them into a consistent winning team and actually obtaining fans from the hometown Charlie Thomas is a good dude An honest car salesman. I appreciate that all that he and Steve Patterson did for us
