Robert Covington is not the answer, https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/covinro01.html , the Golden State Warrior fans also overvalue this guy, he might be a slight upgrade over house playing at his best, but the Wolves overrate him, so any trade means the rockets will be overpaying at best for a marginal upgrade. - he shoots 34% from three point land these days. And Harden was blowing past him with ease when they last played at Toyota Center.

You need a big splash like trading RW for 3 really good rotation level players to make a difference this year.

That's what the Rockets need another 6 foot 3 guard in MS, who shoots 35% from three, and is a lifetime chucker.

Daryl Morey has never gotten the importance of team chemistry - this is why he thinks he can put together his best roster late in the season, and still put together a cohesive unit - it rarely works out that way in the NBA.

Their best set (if you call this a set) - is to swing it one spot over to the right, have that guy drive, and kick to the corner for Tucker or House to try a three - it has always had very limited success at best.

The rockets need to forget about saving legs during the regular season, and start practicing their asses off reworking their offense - because that is the only hope of putting together a more consistent team which oh, by the way would also play more as a cohesive unit with better team chemistry via a motion style offense.

James Harden needs to drop his ego at the door, the stat chasing was good for a year, now the most innovative thing he do, or add to his game is not the one legged three point shot, but to actually play a role in a motion offense - the same motion offense that had one shooter on the floor last year in the playoffs for GSW in Klay Thompson, and surprise the ball still found him in the offensive sets with the motion offense - and the Warriors survived Steph being in Foul trouble in the first half of game 6 strictly because of a beautifully run motion offense.

Good ball movement and player movement, and new offensive sets is the only innovative value added move the rockets can make with this group right now to improve the overall product. (I cringe, as probably the rest of Harden's teammates when he goes down in that dribble stance to get his rhythm for his step back three.

It really is ego at this point for Harden because it is so much more difficult, than to get off your lazy ass, and run and pass in a motion offense, and shoot a wide open shot, and involve your teammates in a manner where everyone develops a much better rhythm in the offense - they are just too predictable and too easy to defend right now with this offense - if you call it an offense.

In the end it comes down to team chemistry - and there seems no light at the end of this dark tunnel right now, regardless of players added at the trade deadline.

This in one and the same issue: RW and JH are competing against each other for stats - both have become stat whores, so much so that they know where they stand with regard to stats during the game, just terrible.

Yeah, the Golden State Warriors were in better shape, and it showed in game 7, as they both played limited benches, but who was nailing their threes in the second half of game 7. Just imagine all the running Steph and Klay, and the Warriors had to do, but somehow they had the better legs. Yes it takes effort, you get out, what you put in, from an effort standpoint. Oh, poor babies will have to get in shape, and lose some weight.

Motion offense depends on two things - Ball handlers and good passes (please if the warriors role players excelled, and could keep up with the demands of a motion offense, so can the Rockets' role players. These are professional basketball players - the rockets have the personnel to run a motion offense, they just need a coach who gets buy-in to the system, and MDA has lost this team a long time ago.

Remove Harden and West
-- who are the three best ball handlers - who are the three best passers. . . and who are likely to be out on the court at the same time
I saw PB play some of his best ball ever on the offensive side MDA's first year here with the Rockets where the second team ran some sort of motion offense on certain sets - it takes practice, but that is the beauty of a motion offense, players don't need to do anything special, just play within the system of motion, constant cuts, and passing. There is actually far less dribbling in a motion offense. Look at all the 'scrubs' that played good roles for the GSW over the years - if they played here in Houston, these players would never even touch the court.

House/BMac/PJ/Clint are not great passers by a mile . . .and marginal ball handlers
That leaves EGO and Rivers - which probably won't be both on the court with Harden and Westie

It is not a personnel issue, it is a mindset issue - Harden wants to do what he has done since he came into the league, pound the ball at the top of the three point line - go watch old OKC tapes, and Harden was doing the same thing (just in a more limited manner at the time).

Some of this is a league wide issue: many players at the NBA level believe they are above coaching. Finding a coach who gets buy-in is hard but
Mike Budenholzer has done this with a couple of teams in the Hawks for a while, and the Bucks.

Who did you beat, who was missing on the other teams, and how did you win games - is any of this sustainable long term versus the trend displayed the entire season of mediocre and inconsistent play reliant on James Harden being hot on that given night from three point range.
