I think we will keep our picks at the trade deadline but use them early in the offseason before the draft.
This trade sucks because I see it as one of the only things we can do, and it doesn't address our need for defense. But I think it makes us slightly better overall. Capela + fillers to ATL Houston 2nd Rounder to OKC Parsons + ATL protected 1st to OKC Gallinari + Noel to HOU Which means HOU IN: Gallinari and Noel HOU OUT: Capela, fillers and a 2nd Allows us to rest PJ a bit and use him more at the 3. Hopefully Noel can do 70% of what Capela does, though it's a fantasy to imagine Noel averaging 15 rebounds lol.
How much would things have to go south quickly here for us to be sellers ? We lack assets and contracts as it is . Unless DM pulls a rabbit out of his hat we arent gonna pick up an impact piece. The best we could realistically hope for is some decent depth and THAT might be expensive. I wouldn't sell as is because we still have harden and some decent pieces and if we are hot we could get lucky.... but our downside is also pretty low . If someone was gonna try and toss us a late 1st or early 2nd for house of Maclemore would you say no ?
No one will i'd bet, a random 2nd maybe, and i doubt that would help much tbh...maybe will help Tilman to dump some more salary, but that's it.
Butterfly effect…tilman gonna hurt more, next season further budgeted or penny pitching Its rubbing salt to the wound
Serious question Would you trade James Harden for Devin Booker, Kelly Oubre, and a 1st? James has been great but have we run our course with him? Capela Tucker Oubre Booker Westbrook trade sets us up to transition into our next generation
How would that trade help Westbrook? He would still have a center who literally offers nothing on the offense/defense. He would still have a short and aging power forward who has been inconsistent this season. He would then have an average 3pt shooter in Oubre. I guarantee you the other team just starts double teaming Booker and leaving Westbrook wide open for the lane.
Not a chance the Rockets are sellers .... What do they have to sell ? They'll dump Nene to get under the tax line .... but consider that outside of Harden , WB , Capela , Tucker , EG and House the rest of the roster is on vet minimum contracts. They wont be creating cap space dumping any of those guys nor are teams going to give picks in return for them , in fact dumping them hurts their ability to take in salary going forward. GG .... will have full bird rights this offseason. They can sign him to the deal they should have given Shumpert this past offseason to be used for salary filler in trade. Then 20% raises for the others in vet mins .... rather than standard vet mins.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=wx5ead4 Having a play around. Grizzlies probably say no. But they do get the best player of the bunch in Capella and a serviceable backup to Ja (looks like they're hot and cold on Melton), but have to give up an upside guy in Clarke. Throw them this years first and maybe? Wizards get a stretchyish 5 which leaves Rui to drive more I guess. Who knows what the Wizards are up to these days.. I haven't seen enough of Thomas Bryant to know if he can play starter minutes, but he keeps being brought up so.. good? Clarke gets all the lobs Capella did and Bertans sits back and shoots the **** outa the ball. Russ/Clemons ( eh..) Harden/Gordon PJ/House/Maclemore Bertans/Clarke Bryant/Harty/PJ Not suuuuuper far fetched and If Grizz were determined on playing JJJ at the 5, Clints a good trade chip for a guy like Jaylen. Who's young enough to fit their window still.
For Mclemore, you do it. No control over his future, highly unlikely to get better than this. For House no. We have him under contract and it's so hard to draft someone late in the 1st round who you would even consider starting on a contender. House is some regular season games and a couple of playoff series away from becoming a good starter for this team.
https://tradenba.com/trades/BEV8m7r5k Kings are bad. Hield cannot be traded. Fox is going nowhere. Bogdan is gone soon or must be paid heavily. Bagley is looking busty and we know the Kings don't give guys time to develop. Covington is gone at the deadline. Bogdan is two years younger. Gives them more playmaking. Allows Diop to take over the RoCo role. Capela gives the Kings a reasonable contract on a longer term deal. He's proven that he can run the PNR with the best of them. Fox is a guy who would genuinely thrive with CC. Rockets get the 3 and D guy they need. They take a flier on Bagley. The Rockets would need another trade for a more defensive minded center. https://tradenba.com/trades/PQzC_FZYW Rockets duck the tax. Rockets get three options at the 5. Lauri is a potential star but is out 4-6 weeks. https://tradenba.com/trades/oAQzgizbS mix it up.
I wouldn't, imo Booker is also overrated, but the trade idea i think is fair on paper. Thinking about a rebuilding, you could do it kinda quickly in that scenario, you could trade Westbrook and Tucker for guys like Kennard, Doumbouya who would fit really well at the two and four, you could also trade Capela looking to take back a younger center with upside assuming there would be one available, if not well, Capela should fit well with Booker since he's a good passer for the spot.
