It's ok for dead men to donate sperm, according to medical ethics study

A new study argues that it's "ethically permissible" for dead men to "register their desire to donate their sperm after death for use by strangers." Dr. Nathan Hodson of the University of Leicester and Dr. Joshua Parker of Manchester's Wythenshawe Hospital conducted their research as a response to a shortage of sperm donors in the United Kingdom. From CNN:

Reading the paper, they are talking about sperm donors who have already agreed while they were alive that they would donate after they're dead, like an organ donor might. I was a bit concerned about what they meant by "voluntary non-directed donation." "Non-directed" seems to mean that the recipient isn't expressly named, not that no direction to take the sperm was given. Just FYI.

This is an entirely too serious response to a thread like this.

non-directed just acknowledges that electro-ejaculation is notorious for poor aim.

I don't hold it against anyone - woman, man, couple, whatever - that wants to have a child, and one that wants to have one where they in some way control the genetics of the child... in this case being at least half "their own".

But if we're talking about post-mortem sperm... I mean, isn't it time to kind of so "no", how about adoption?
