I was looking at Urban Dictionary and found that they are looking for definitions for the city of Austin, TX. Well I then did a search on what they have listed as a definition for Austin and here's what I found. Now I have personally never been to Austin but have seen that many people on here do live in or visit the city frequently. So, which definition best describes Austin, Texas? :D

It was great back in the 70s and early 80s.

    That is so true...

The first time I lived there, I had heard all these great things about it. Never quite measured up.

Let's see... overpriced... full of attitude... style and no substance...

Now, I hear that Austin has the best deals on cheap.... ummm, herbs and pharmaceuticals. Of course, since I don't partake of that, it didn't help me any.

Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

    Or...

More smelly hippies per capita than any other city in Texas.

Isabel, I guess you weren't here during the '60's and '70's, when Austin got the great reputation it's still trying to cling to. Back then, the place was awesome... AWESOME.

I sat around at a cottage on the side of Castle Hill and listened to Leonard Cohen sing and "relax" with about 20 people. About half a dozen of them were friends of mine. I had a buddy who lived in a wood frame house by Mount Bonnell that used to answer his door with nothing on but a felt hat with a feather like Errol Flynn wore in Robin Hood. The guy had the most incredible gatherings at his place. We used to go skinny dipping in Lake Austin in the middle of the night over by Laguna Gloria. There was a rope swing. I used to listen to some of the best music ever made at spots like the Vulcan Gas Company, before Armadillo World Headquarters. And that was coming up from Houston. I stayed here a couple of weeks at a stretch from time to time, but never made a permanent move until 1980. Just in time for things starting to change in a big way.

I could carry on, but this place is special to me because of what I've done here and that, despite everything that's changed, it's still the most liberal city in Texas... thank god.
