That's not true. In fact, Chinese Basketball Association is ruled by bureaucrat, they need achievements to substain their career life and report to the upper level. Sadly Asian games are among achievements, so they will never risk on that coz a loss in Asian game will cost them chair in CBA office. That's why Yao will keep on playing games in both Asian and NBA until there is a new player can make sure Chinese team winning all the Asian titles.

BTW one Chinese reporter (Yang Yi who is very close to Yao) said Yao paid 8 millions usd to free himself from Shanghai Sharks. At first Sharks asked for more (arround 30 millions usd) and Yao really thought of dropping his NBA life. 8 million was a number after negotiation and Yao had a comment on it "they paid 30 RMB(Chinese money) to get me playing for Shanghai"

seriously, my biggest problem now is why NBA prohibits rockets paying some of it for yao...

by drafting yao, rockets is effectively getting the whole shanghai sharks team... and I just feel it's a highway robbery without some reasonable compensation to them.

Sounds ridiculous amount of money to "free" Yao, Yao is not a slave and he should able to go and come as he wants and everyone has the right to choose.

I don't think people are disputing about paying some kind of money for termination. What seems not quite right is the amount being paid - it really sounds like robery!
Please don't tell me whatever amount the Shanghai Shark come up with will be reasonable!
