Being an innovator doesn't mean he revolutionized the entire NBA and caused all the coaches to change their coaching style. Don Nelson was an innovator too and popularized small ball before MDA nobody ever said he revolutionized the entire NBA. In fact Don Nelson wasn't just the first person to popularize small ball, he also popularized stetch bigs because he was the one who encouraged and enabled Dirk Nowitzki to be the first perimeter oriented 7 footer. For all his innovations Don Nelson isn't in the hall of fame so if he isn't a HOF coach MDA shouldn't be called a HOF either. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/380022-don-nelson-may-not-be-in-the-hall-but-hes-an-all-timer As an aside Steve Kerr wasn't from MDA coaching tree, he was from Greg Popovich coaching tree and Phil Jackson coaching tree cuz he played for Pops and PJ as a player and presumably learned coaching from them. When he got to PHX he was already a CONSULTANT, he wasn't influencing MDA he was the one influencing MDA as he was the guy making moves there and acquiring players. I did the research just now and all MDA is known for or his legacy as you call it is his 7 seconds or less offense. How many teams nowadays practice 7 seconds or less? I dunno how GSW is the fulfillment of MDA's vision they don't have a 7 secs or less offense lol don't they have a slow pace and almost halfcourt like offense? That's just another credit grab from MDA who seems to credit grab from just about everyone, his GM, his players and even other teams who have nothing to do with him.
in the nba (more so than in any other sport), your team is only as good as your star player. basically, if harden plays like ****.. then it’s gonna be tough sledding, especially against good teams. this isn’t just exclusive to houston though. if lebron plays like crap, lakers lose. if doncic plays like crap, mavs lose. a good coach enables his star players to play up to their full potential. phil jackson did the same with michael jordan. and phil jackson was one of the worst x’s and o’s coaches. yet he implemented a system that enabled mj to play up to his potential. i don’t think anyone will disagree that d’antoni has unlocked harden’s full potential. sure, there are some things that d’antoni could do better. but he’s still a great coach who has the full trust and support from his best player.
It was 7 seconds or less waaaaay before it was Moreyball. Analytics is based on something that has already happened.
Jesus. Watch this Thats dumb, maybe both should be in the HOF and likely will. Steve Kerr was a GM when Mike was coach. He's the idiot who traded for Shaq to try and get Phonix over the hump. Then he hired a bad coach(Phoenix was bad for a year after Mike left) before letting Alivin Gentry coach(using Mike's same style) and trading Shaq, and lo and behold they were good again, even going to the WCF. Steve Kerr also took plays from Mike Dantoni. MDA's coaching style is not influenced by Steve Kerr LOL. You didnt do any research my god. Its not about seven seconds or less. Its about pace, space, three point shooting. Alvin Gentry after the Warriors won the Championship said the words "Mike is vindicated" after the Warriors won their first chip. And no GS plays with one of the highest paces in the league. You really just dont know what you are talking about.
Now you sound like Jopat with your stubborn refusal to see the obvious. Read the articles I linked, straight out of Kerr's mouth. Kerr credits D'Antoni. So does Pop by the way, he stole some of MDA's offense and incorporated into his Spurs championship teams. Dont like the guy, understandable but dont whitewash history. And do your due diligence, Nelson was an innovator for not necessarily small ball but positionless basketball. It was MDA who preferred smaller players, not because they were small but because they were usually the most skilled and better shooters.
We have lost with the three worst teams in the West. Today we lose again against a team with a losing record. What else is needed to understand that this team is not going anywhere? What else must happen so that we understand that without playing defense there is no way to win?
You have to ride with what you have. After the season we need to replace him with a coach that can win. Sam Cassel is the guy but needs to have an elite coaching staff
the jackass owner essentially wasted a season, a season in harden's prime, simply because he didn't want to eat the $4M? left on mda's contract
Its obvious he's just going through the motions, until they get bounced in the playoffs. He never came into this season committed to winning a title.
It has nothing to do with his commitment to winning. The talent on this team sucks minus 3 players (thanks to Morey) and he flat out sucks as a coach. This team is like a sequel....we’re nowhere near as good as the original cast (with Ariza & Luc) and other teams have mimicked our system and do it with much better three point shooters than ours. Did I mention that our coach sucks!!!
I don't agree with everything said in this thread, but I'm just glad it keeps getting bumped. Let's keep it going!!
the worry though is that we've wasted yet another harden mvp season clueless MFers running this franchise
He never tries to do anything to stop the momentum from the other teams. It also isn't the first time we've completely fell apart in the 4th quarter and he's done absolutely to stop it. He literally just relies on Harden to drop 50 plus every game so he doesn't have to take responsibility.
