So Bernie reportedly asked Warren repeatedly to run in 2016 so he didn’t have to ... yet he believed a women couldn’t win? This adds to my suspicion about the Bernie “attack” on Warren actually being a fake outrage attack by Warren on Bernie.
Althouse on Warren: No one can remember everything that was said in a 2-hour conversation, certainly not verbatim. And in a conversation like that, many things are said hypothetically or for effect, so even a verbatim comment — like "A woman cannot win in 2020" — means very little out of context. That's why it's wrong — speaking of weaponizing whatever you can — to bring that quote/near quote out of the confidential conversation and spring it on the voters. The real problem here is not that Bernie may have said the words attributed to him, but that Warren's people chose to drag something private into the light for the purpose of making him look like a sexist. https://althouse.blogspot.com/2020/01/is-bernie-sanders-or-elizabeth-warren.html
Warren is low to do this and it's backfiring. #WarrenRefund and #RefundWarren were trending on twitter and allegedly ActBlue, a democrat donation side was flooded with people getting refunds for their contributions to Warren.
Warren here looks like a typical old style politician albeit with quite a few progressive positions. Again half measures. This time to dial the charges back. She let the claim by anonymous folks fester for a couple of days, tried to revive her failing fundraising on it and then came out with a sort of statement to downplay or semi-deny it. So politician like.
This right here, Bernie has a long track record and hasn't flip flopped on much of anything in the past 40 years or so. I'm gonna take his word over anyone on this.
Context matters. There’s nothing wrong with offering your objective opinion that a woman can’t win (due to inherent misogyny). It’s no different than the people that think Mayor Pete can’t win because the country isn’t ready to elect a gay man or woman. The timing of this is very suspect and reeks of Warren’s campaign trying to drum up interest in tonight’s debate. The moderators, of course, are going to address this. I’m not a Bernie guy, but any accusation of him being sexist is completely asinine. It’ll be interesting to see if Warren doubles down or backtracks.
I think it's likely that it will all be explained away with no hard feelings between anyone. That's my guess. It will be anti-climatic fizzle and the networks will be wondering from where they will get their clickbait.
Wants to cancel 95% of the $1.5 trillion Americans have on her first day in office. https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/...rowers-student-debt-on-day-one-154007044.html Not sure the soundness of doing this, which would be very controversial, without involving Congress. Additionally, if this is even legal at all, this is just a stop gap without Congress. Moving forward you will need Congressional action to effectuate changing the system.
BernieBros in a tizzy. Non-BernieBros with a giant collective "meh". That is what I take most from this - Trump level polarization in the Dem party about Bernie. Maybe that's just the new normal and applies to candidates running for local dog catcher now. I have a much more favorable view of Warren than Sanders, so I should say that, but he's the one who started go after her when he smelled blood in the water. I guess he expected her to just roll over and die?
I think it’s possible...as long as the Senate confirms her choice of Secretary of Education. If the GOP still controls the Senate, there’s no way they confirm anyone that will do this.
When you say Bernie started it first, do you mean when he and his surrogates say that Warren's base is affluent and white? What did Bernie do that you would consider an attack?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.po...bernie-quietly-goes-negative-on-warren-097594 Dismissing "the elites" is straight out of the Trump playbook.
You very well might be right about that, but at the same time, saying it was all just a misunderstanding completely negates any point of Warren’s people raising the point in the first place.
So correctly and accurately pointing out that Warren's base is affluent and white is an attack? Warren then nuking her chances with progressives by smearing Bernie as a sexist is the appropriate counter-attack on her friend? Pretty slimy, man. I never thought Warren would do it. Well I guess I should have known.. She did back Hilary instead of Bernie when she thought Hilary was going to pick her to be VP.. Warren has no campaign sense at all. The DNA test, backing away from M4A, now this. She is getting TERRIBLE advice.
I have progressive tendencies. Bernie or Warren are the people I wanted 1 and 2 because they are the only progressives in the field. I'm a hardcore get chump-ass Trump out of office fan. I'm voting for anybody who becomes the Dem nominee. Take that to the bank.
Campaign advisor said it was a misunderstanding. In other words, "yeah he said it, but he meant something completely different"! Pretty sure if he did tell her a woman can't win and presumably offended her, it would be a pretty easy thing to remember, no? That said, all of this Bernie-defense is hilarious. It's as though he expects to be able to go after other candidates for whatever he wants (Pete talks to billionaires = EVIL!!!!) but should be immune from being attacked because .. just because.
