I actually wouldn't mind this. He'd never do it, and he's too old even if he wanted to. I would like to see a little more of a Dierkeresque manager, though, that actually gets mad and calls it like it is when his team puts up lacking effort as these Astros were prone to do. Also, can we finally get some decent batting coaching as well if we're getting rid of the manager?
I actually hope Crane will hire Bagwell and Biggio to be the GM and manager and run this organization to the ground. Do it Jim.
If Vegas will open a line on this, my money is on Tim Bogar. Low risk investment, typical Crane's style.
I have a friend who is a Tigers fan that grimaces every time you mention Ausmus. He was lousy in Anaheim, too. No thanks.
Bagwell? No way. But, Crane might be intrigued about hiring Biggio as manager. Yes, he has no managerial experience. But, it would be popular with the fans, and Crane may see that as important at this point in time. Crane should see if Morey is interested in moving to baseball as GM. Could be good timing for Morey to make a move.
Timing is a bit bad since Chaim Bloom and Mike Elias now have GM positions. I'd expect promotion within and Joe Espada, or if they bring in an outsider than that guy hires the coach. Personally I'd love they get someone from the Dodgers or the Rays but not sure who's available and is capable.
