Those of you voting yes need to take a glance at the remaining schedule. I hope they hit 50 wins too, but I'm not placing any bets in Vegas.

To get 50 wins, they have to go 11-6 (.647). 11 of those games are on the road. Of the 6 home games, three of them are against the Kings, the T-wolves, and the Mavs; two are against the Nuggets and the Raptors who are fighting for a playoff spot.

    I am predicting a 8-9 finish, winning 47 games.

Ya'all are forgeting one very important obstacle to 50 wins. 50 wins will not give the Rox the #4 seed (1st round home court). Once to Rox have secured a playoff spot...Francis, Mobley, and especially JJ and Yao will be playing far fewer minutes than they have been averaging. I stand with my pre-season prediction...47 wins, 7th seed. IMHO, JVG is not going to risk injuries in a meaningless game.

rockets at home are (25wins / 35 home games)

thats 4 wins out of 6 home game left.........rounding down

rockets on the road are (14 wins / 31 away games)

thats 5 wins out of 11 away games left....... rounding down

by those numbers (rounding down) thats 9-8 with no "i have a heart for my team" calculated at all.

after the 5 game winning streak (6 if you disregard the ref job during the LA game), playing .700 in the last 10 games and steve returning for 50% shooting in the last 6 games...who thinks we can snag 2 more than what these rounded down raw stats predict?

    against the West
    17-20....37 total
    7 Wins. rounded down

    against the East
    22-6.....28 total
    2 Wins. rounded up

by those stats, again...we go 9-8 to finish the season.
    get at least 2 more.

i know its sort of unimportant and we just need to get in the playoffs and get it going, but...50 wins is a pretty cool milestone.

Well, it's a good thing because it prepares us for the playoffs. We are not playing any east teams unless you know what.

Based on our plays in the last couple of weeks, I like our chance for the remaining schedule.

The schedule is really tough down the stretch of the season. It would be lucky to get 48 Ws.

I said at the beginning of the year 48 wins, and I think that is where they will end up, and in the 7th spot.

    please.

when will rockets fans start sounding/acting like f-a-n-s?

rockets fans are seriously making me want to yell, jump up and down, and run head first into a brick wall.

that grizz game.... the ratio of fans clapping, cheering, shouting to fans that were glazed over basstids was like 1:20... in my area and it really irked me. yeah, I'MMMM THE JERK thats ruining your relaxing cas' viewing of a live rockets game.
the old couple in front of me ACTUALLY FELL ASLEEP!!!!

if you fall asleep at a rockets game, you should be escorted out of the building. if you dont make noise you should be escorted out of the building. if you dont BELIEVE in the rockets you should be escorted out of the clutchfans forum.

What exactly is this post supposed to mean? There is a difference between being a loyal fan and being blindly loyal. Being optimistic is fine, but so is being realistic.

if you want to debate it, lets debate it. show proof. elaborate. problem with this forum i've noticed is many accusations with no substance. bark..no bite. no teeth.

i've supported my predictions of 50Ws being within reason with calculations. now you try to support your claim of my "blind loyalty" with calculations of your own.

    *arms_crossed*

lets see if your "20-20" loyalty has ANYTHING behind it.

Let's see...if the Rockets have truly elevated to another level or if they if this is just some abberation before they lose 3 straight.

I mean, it's just a 5 game winning streak, sure it's three good teams, but I just don't know.

If Yao doesn't fade back into a soft player and Francis continues to look for assists...then I do think Houston has a legitimate shot at 50.

But that might only be good enough for the 6 or 7th seed.

Then again, a big win streak could get them to the 4th seed - but I think with the Lakers healthy it's not going to happen.

we only need to win half of the games so we don't slip to eight..so we can get the timberwolves...we have a better chance at an upset in the first round against them than any other teams....i say we try to keep pace with them.....we don't need to move up and don't need to move down just stay at 7th seed :D

I'm not sure what you're problem is but...

    1) JVG has never been on record as stating 50 wins was a goal...it's always been playoffs...actually, it's been about consistency and winning the championship.

    2) Once the Rockets can not move up any further in the standings, Van Gundy will not be playing Francis, Mobley and JJax 40 mpg. IOW, once they reach ~47 wins, JVG will back off.

Don't believe me? His 1999-2000 Knicks were 47-28 after beating ORL on April 7, 2000. They went 3-4 over their next 7 to finish at 50-32. On April 5, 2001 Van Gundy's 2000-01 Knicks were 45-30 after defeating WAS. They finshed out the next seven games at 3-4 to finish 48-34.

This logic over rides any of your "they'll win this game, they'll lose that game, they'll beat this sub .500 team at home" logic.

I hope at the end of this month, we will get at least 5 more wins, thus 45 wins pretty much assure us 7th spot.

So entering the April, we will have luxury to considering more about playoffs, that's priceless. without risking any loss, JVG will have tons of opportunaties to evaluate his playoff roster.

I don't expect 50+ wins. Just hope everything will be fine and when playoff comes, Rockets has already built strong feeling more than anyone else.

    anyway I predict 48-49 wins;)

If you need proof of Jeff's loyalty.. you should call the Rockets and specifically George Postolos.. I bet they tell you he is the most loyal in the city :)

you misunderstood. prove that my "we CAN win 50 and its not as crazy as you think" statement is completely nuts. i've calculated its within reach with 2 different stats methods. why doesnt this "jeff" insider fan prove to this "blind" blue collar fan that the rockets are not likely to hit 50. come up with something other than the self proclaimed assumption that he is being the realist. IM being the realist. many are being cynical , pessimistic and acting more the SI journalist than a rockets fan.

so did someone actually say that after 47 were going to pull back and just let seattle and the mavs play our bench?!?!!?
    please.

    Ckahlich001,

Maybe you didn't know that several years ago, Jeff was a key player, some say THE key player, in negotiating the new arena and keeping the Rockets in Houston. And maybe you missed Rocket Fan's reference to Jeff's contributions. That's understandable.

And maybe you missed that Jeff is member "# 7", and maybe you missed that he joined in February of 1999. A touch ironic, no, that you're questioning the loyalty and fandom of member #7?

Maybe you missed that underneath Jeff's handle is a little title "Clutch Crew," which indicates that, at the very least, he donates much of his time to working, for free, on this site that you and I both enjoy.

Maybe you missed all of Jeff's 14,000+ posts. Now I'm not one of those people that snarl their faces and pound their chests and point to their post counts. (I only rarely post and can appreciate the virutes of lurking). That said, ANY of Jeff's 14,000 posts, any one of them, can show you that he is about as an informed, rational, intelligent, and perceptive a Rockets fan as you're likely to encounter.

Maybe you missed all of this. Now you know.
