So if Iran build a nuclear weapons stockpile in a year or two because of the assassination of Soleimani is that worth it? I'm sure the Trump camp will claim Iran was building them all along and if we hadn't killed Soleimani we wouldn't have discovered it, or something.
They’ve been at war with us for years. I’m pleasantly surprised not to see the kooks out on Post Oak and Westheimer protesting against the US and Israel as they normally do after events like these.
So I am sure Russia and China will be cool with giving them help Just so I am sure 1. Embassy was attacked in Bagdad (Iraq) 2. We killed an Iranian General in retaliation Iran and Iraq are enemies right? Rocket River
I would have much preferred a capture/arrest mission. Instead of a dead general we would have a bargaining chip.
It is not quit that clearcut. The people attacking the embasy were members of a militia that effectively works for Iran, but they were Iraqis. Iran is Iraqs number one trading partner. A lot of the Shi'a view Iran as "big brother" as they have positioned themselves as the leader of the Shi'a , a lot of other Iraqis view them as necessary friends, and a whole bunch of others view them as an encroaching threat. So the status of Iran vis a vis Iraq probably depends a whole lot on which particular Iraqi you ask.
Good question, but it's a lot more complicated than that these days. Iran sees a real opportunity to exert more influence in Iraq than ever before, as I understand it. https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...spute-between-iran-united-states/?arc404=true
It's logical to assume they were still working on their nuke program while the agreement was in place. North Korea burned us and Iran is hell bent on getting nukes. IMO, nothing was ever going to stop that. Not the billions of dollars we hooked them up with. I imagine that money was spent towards their ultimate goal. BTW...Everybody be sure to back up your computers (I did last night). Gonna have some cyber issues to deal with.
To wit, it seems the Iraqis are more concerned with unapproved American military adventures on their soil than unapproved Iranian military adventures: Iraqi parliament calls for US troops to be kicked out after Soleimani killing
Some figures are more powerful in death than in life. His whole mission was to get the US expelled from Iraq and in death he looks to be succeeding tremendously at least in official expulsion. Making him a martyr was incredibly stupid. How about just stopping the attacks he’s planning and make the policy of Shia militias ineffective so they change their behavior?
DO NOT CARE what the Iraqi parliament or government says. Their former Prime Minister's son was found in Beiruit with 1.5 billion dollars in CASH and had moved over 3 billion from Iraq. They are all as corrupt as it gets. Iraqi's need to sort their bs out themselves.... without our money and weapons. I hope they enjoy ISIS 2.0.
We did not hook them up with ****, it was their money we unfroze. It's amazing that the same people who are against the Iran deal are completely ok with Trump and North Korea.
The difference is that the Iranian Nuke deal had measures in it that included inspections. If they don't follow the agreement we would have a much better chance of knowing and leveraging sanctions against them. We didn't hook them up with money. We didn't give them money from our coffers. It was their money we had frozen. All we did was release it. Now that we've killed the General, how is the United States better off than before?
