I saw this tidbit, 1st I have heard of it:

Steve Francis and Cutino Mobley went to their pockets for 50G when Calvin Murphy was trying to solicit money to buy a new van for his charity work with kids.

I assume this to be true and therefore believe these men deserve props for doing it, and doing it quietly.

So, gentlemen and good Rox, here's props to you!

are you kidding me? even a nice mini van is 35K... i'm assuming this is one of those large full sized dodge vans.

I think they did that right before the start of last season.

Maybe it's one of those shuttles instead of a van. It makes more sense if they are trying to shuttle around 10 or more kids.

huh! you're right. i always thought those would cost way more than a mini van but they don't.

also i guess things cost slightly more out here on the east coast.

they type of van i'm thinking of only costs around 25K MSRP

The price is about right. I played in Calvin's drum line (marching thunder) when I was younger. Robert and Sam donated money for that van. It was big enough to seat 10-11 people...crowded ofcourse.

Nice of Cat and Steve to do that....the kids really appreciate things like that.

I can't speak to the cost, but, yes, Steve and Cat donated a van to help Calvin's program a little while back. And it wasn't a cheap one, either.

Neither Steve or Cat wanted it to be a big deal in the press, so we respected that. That's the way they both tend to operate. We've had numerous times where Cat has gone to visit kids in the hospital, for example, and he's asked us to keep it quiet so it doesn't become a media circus.

I appreciate their desire to keep the PR low so that the sincerity of the gesture is maintained. But I can't say I'm sorry that word-of-mouth leaks around about this kind of thing, especially with the (in my opinion, unfair) beating they were both taking from some fans earlier in the season.

I'm not a religious dude, but I have perused the Bible enough to remember that Jesus pointed out that giving should be done on the down-low rather than publicly proclaimed. That way you don't come across as a glory-seeking hypocrite. (Steve can seek his glory on SportsCenter, I guess. The boys keeping their giving mum? Props to Steve and Cat.)
