Seems like Congress has slipped an extension to it in the current spending bill, what's your opinion on it?

I won’t pretend to know the in’s and out’s of it, but my gut reaction is that it’s ok. The government is not going after people for simple drug possession. It’s meant to target terrorist activity. Would love to hear examples of people getting busted for leases offenses though. In that case I would say it’s wrong

Its OK if you don't care about the constitution or the rights granted you by it ...

Its OK if you don't mind government wire-tapping without due process or unwarranted and unreasonable government searches and seizures.

Like I said above - chingalѐ the patriot act

Is naming it a Patriot act some sort of a subliminal, psychological trick to make people extra hesitant going against it? Nobody wants to be viewed as a non-patriot. Just wondering.

I'm usually focused on the privacy bits that make us a surveillance state:
    https://www.comparitech.com/blog/vpn-privacy/a-breakdown-of-the-patriot-act-freedom-act-and-fisa/

Pretty much makes the intel com yet another industrial complex.

Or she could be more connected with the local community to make it better.

Not sure how leaving or disengaging solves anything...

Lol slow your roll, homie. Playing with the 4th amendment is one of the things I enjoy most. I love the US Constitution and I think it’s a more Interesting and important document than the Bible.

Anyone’s evidentiary rights that have been violated ought/should/will get relief in court; i.e. suppression of incriminating evidence discovered against them. I don’t care if my phone inadvertently (or intentionally) gets tapped as long as that evidence is recognized as “fruit of the poisonous tree”. Ergo if they can’t use, let’s say, my intent to sell an ounce of dope to a friend. As long as the scope of the recordings are to thwart any terroristic activities then I’m completely fine with it.

If the Patriot Act has been used to prosecute folks for something less than attempt/conspiracy to commit an act of terror, then yes it’s wrong. Otherwise I think it has a purpose

Any time we've given our government an inch , they've taken a mile … This thing opens the door to such abuses and should be slammed shut.

I kinda liken it to the death penalty - In theory I support the death penalty but in practice , I'm vehemently against it because they get it wrong once and that's once too many as an innocent man's life is taken.

And lets face it , they get it wrong far too often.

I agree, once that door opens it will never close again. We've given the government too much power in the name of safety and I don't see a way to ever reel that back in.

Another strong argument for the US to formally switch to the metric system.
