James Harden just mixed Paul George like some cake mix. Lord of mercy!

I think it's less of a mistake than that. I think he purposely puts the ball towards his shooting hand in a motion to shoot, pulls it back with his right hand and goes right after the defender commits. I really don't think it's a mishandle at all, just awkward on purpose. I swear I've seen this move once a game this season.

Get your eyes checked. (not really, but look at some replays with better angles & slow mo) It's absolutely clear he didn't touch it with the left hand. In fact, he's 3 inches away from it with the left hand. You got fooled like Paul George did.

yep thats the whole point of that move. to trick the defender that he's about to gather and shoot or pass

I wrote this before I saw the slow motion video from the front. Harden is a genius. He takes stuff from freestylers and uses it in games.

I don't get it - what's the big deal if he carried or not? I mean, truthfully, it was AN OBVIOUS CARRY. I mean, that's a textbook definition of what a carry is in basketball.

What's insane is that people has to be such homers and can't admit when we got away with one. It's not that big of a deal. It wasn't like he was trying to cheat - it made a mistake and got away with it.

But he didn’t, textbook carry is hand under the ball. He never does that. There’s no homerism to an actual fact.

His hand is under the ball. “Under the ball” doesn’t mean at south pole, if that’s what you are thinking. It means most of the hand is under the equator of the basketball. The argument that it’s not a carry isn’t that part of his hand didn’t go under the ball. It’s that he either didn’t “carry” the ball from one point to another while his hand was under the ball or the ball didn’t come to a pause while his hand was under the ball. This is more of a judgment call than a clear violation or non-violation, I think. NBA refs do not generally enforce this rule to the letter, as the league wants to promote more freedom for offensive players.

having a screen shot that screen shot doesn't prove

    (1) carry it from one point to another or (2) bring it to a pause and then continue to dribble again

and if there's no evidence that a play wasn't illegal then it's legal.. you can't say "oh its neither illegal or legal" LOL

are you all applying to become refs?

WHO cares if he carried or not if he got away with it.
The NBA itself told us a made basket doesn't matter and you all here arguing about a move like your pride depends on it.

that's the point. with all the scrutiny/bias Harden gets from the league and refs pretty sure if this was a violation the NBA would have said it already

the nba has already said : it doesn't matter if something is right or wrong even if blinding obvious, what matters is what we say. They said this was legal so it's legal. - Lebron stepping around the other day carrying the ball for 5 steps was also legal.

The simple answer to your question is that the refs make mistakes, and if it was a mistake in this case then Harden could try the move again next game and it could very easily be whistled as a carry. So determining whether or not it is in fact a violation actually does matter from that standpoint.

So the point of this thread is to decide on the legality so we can send a letter and inform Harden whether he should continue using this move or not??

Whatever we say , it affects 0% Harden's future actions anyway.
