Celebrated filmmaker Kasi Lemmons (“Eve’s Bayou,” “The Caveman’s Valentine”) helms this biopic based on the life of famous abolitionist Harriet Tubman. Tubman escaped slavery and led dozens of enslaved people to freedom on the Underground Railroad in the face of growing pre-Civil War adversity. “Widows” and “Bad Times at the El Royale” breakout Cynthia Erivo stars as Tubman alongside Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monae, Jennifer Nettles, Joe Alwyn, Vondie Curtis-Hall and Vanessa Bell Calloway. Gregory Allen Howard (“Remember the Titans”) penned the script for the film opening November 1st. http://www.darkhorizons.com/first-trailer-cynthia-erivo-is-harriet/
high school kids today are so spoiled with the options of movies during history class. back in my day, we watched a 5 hour gandhi movie starring the mandarin. i got at least 20-30 cumulative points deducted off my grade for sleeping.
I didn't even get THAT! We never got to watch ANYthing in history or government. We did get to watch "Desperate Lives" every year of Intermediate School. A young Helen Hunt goes crazy eight bonkers on sci lab angel dust!
Blade origin story. Like. I feel like I could name the movies I saw in HighSchool on two hand: 12 Angry Men The Bridge on the River Kwai Our House StreetCar Named Desire A Raisin in the Sun My Fair Lady Rebel Without a Cause Some movie about a cowboy way past his era - John Wayne And a movie with Syndey Potier and Blind girl. All were good movies, but I'm sure that it's much better today, and so much easier to learn and absorb in an engaging environment.
ah... i remember we also watched a raisin int he sun and streetcar. none of which i remember. but for history class, the only other movie i remember is some ww2 pilot movie starring morpheus. we immediately had a quiz on it right after the movie ended, to which i failed. watched the movie, but didn't pay attention to details... like "what song were the men singing at that one scene?" wtf pays attention to that?
My HS history teacher showed us 1 episode of The Simpsons with some sort of historical reference related to the "topic of the day". He also wore a Simpsons tie had asked us to guess something about it (forgot what), if we got it right, we get a homework-free pass. Cool dude, but didn't teach sh*t. Was also the baseball coach.
OMG I remember that show!!! Or the kid that was living in his car with his mom and little brother Rocket River
Saw this movie in the theater over the weekend. I think someone was cutting onions, cuz I had watery eyes. Seriously though, please go see it if you haven't. Ms. Tubman should have been on one of the USD Bills decades ago. The very least our politicians can do.
